You didn't build that" and income redistribution
July 30, 2012|By Ralph R. Reiland

Share on emailShare on printShare on redditMore Sharing Services

PRESIDENT OBAMA'S "you didn't build that" comment has become a top campaign issue.

The uproar began when Obama, speaking on July 13 in Roanoke, Va., emphasized how an individual's success in business is directly dependent upon the government's spending on roads, bridges, education, etc.

"If you were successful, somebody along the line gave you some help," he proclaimed. "Somebody helped to create this unbelievable American system that we have that allowed you to thrive. Somebody invested in roads and bridges. If you've got a business, you didn't build that. Somebody else made that happen."

IT HAS BEEN ALMOST 4 YEARS NOW AND ALL OBAMA KEEPS TALKING ABOUT THE SAME OLD BULL SHIT BUILDING ROADS.WHEN
PEOPLE GET OUT OF COLLEGE DO THEY WANT TO BUILD ROADS????HE ACTS LIKE THIS IS THE ONLY JOB IN THE
USA??

You are a a liar and an idiot.

GM builds and sell junk. They don't honor their warranties either. Anyone who buys GM junk is an idiot like you.

They have been building cars that are gas hogs and don't deserve to be in business, but Obama made sure the unions got a piece of the pie and the shareholders got screwed. Socialism at its worst. We should have let them go bankrupt and restructure. The sky would not have fallen, moron.

The Democrats are already running the Ryan throwing granny off a cliff ad.

A poll was done and as I suspected, most old people find the ad preposterous and indicitive that Democrats will mislead people.

No different the when Moveon took out the full page NY Times Ad with their Genrral Betrayus ad.
Liberals are morons.

NAACP says the ad with Alan West punching out the old white lady is not racially offensive. They said the character depicted in the ad is Lily Boca Raton and since she's married to a black man she should be used to domestic violence and getting smacked around by her black man.

What does the American people think of government playing winners and losers with businesses.

Only 16 percent of voters said the government's loan guarantees to Solyndra was a good idea
Just 27 percent think "it’s ever OK for the government to make investments in private companies"
71 percent of voters believe "private sector companies and investors are better than government officials at determining the long-term benefits and potential of new technologies" and that just 11 percent think "government officials have a better eye for future value"
64 percent think government money will be wasted "if the government provides funding for a project that private investors refuse to back"
66 percent of voters believe crony connections drive most government contracts

What is there not to like?

The Wyden-Ryan Plan retains traditional fee-for-service Medicare as a guaranteed option for retirees. LIBERALS TAKE NOTE: This is the Medicare equivalent of the “public option”.

As opposed to the original Ryan plan and forced privatization, the "new and improved" Wyden-Ryan is about competition.

The government contribution would go to the second-lowest competitive bid or traditional Medicare — whichever is cheaper. IF SENIORS CHOOSE PLANS THAT COST MORE THAN THAT BENCHMARK, THEY WOULD HAVE TO PAY THE DIFFERENCE; IF THEY CHOOSE CHEAPER PLANS, THEY WOULD POCKET THE SAVINGS.

http://dyn.politico.com/printstory.cfm...

As the article points out, progressives should be glad Wyden is keeping options open for bipartisan reform after the election and Ryan should be applauded for moving toward a more principled view on Medicare reform.

So what in the world are liberals complaining about?

I'm sorting this out for myself while posting different sources and articles.

Apparently, there are some kinks in the Wyden-Ryan Plan that still need to be worked out.

Even so...

"In the absence of Obamacare, this [Wyden-Ryan] plan is a very attractive idea. Instead of simply ending the $300 billion-a-year employer tax exclusion creating a massive disruption of the private insurance market, the opt-out idea allows for a voluntary, gradual transition to an individual health-insurance market."

(...this part is very important...)

"When people buy insurance for themselves, they are more likely to shop for value instead of overspending on overly comprehensive benefit packages. That, in turn, brings down costs for the overall system."

http://www.forbes.com/sites/aroy/2011/12/15/r...

Seems to me it will be hard for liberals to rail against this reform.
