Talk grows of gas tax increase

The political vision of a summer gas tax holiday died a quick death in Congress, losing to a view that federal excise taxes on gasoline and diesel fuel will have to go up if they go anywhere.

Despite calls from the presidential campaign trail for a Memorial Day-to-Labor Day tax freeze, lawmakers quickly concluded — with a prod from the construction industry — that having $9 billion less to spend on highways could create a pre-election specter of thousands of lost jobs.

One day soon gasoline will cost so much people with simply give up, quit work, live off the land.

Then oil co's will fall down that deep dark hole. Saudi's will follow. China, Japan, and those other fucked up country's will not be buying enough to match the current volume.

There's resources here in the USA.$$$$ drives the heartless and greedy. Won't buy them entrance into the Kingdom of GOD though.

This is laughable. The politicians don't pay for any of their gas, it's all padded into their salaries.
On top of this debaucle, I'm sure they'll vote themselves anothr pay increase shortly.

The gas tax should be applied to ending the budget and trade deficits. Ending those deficits would make the dollar fall and send gasoline prices up, which would stimulate alternative energy development. Now is the time to do it when oil prices are falling. We shouldn't be running New Deal programs permanently while the economy is in relatively good shape. And if you don't think the economy is in good shape, then you are one of Phil Gramm's whiners.

Tax gas high like Europe does.

That's the real reason why they're so much more energy efficient then we are.

Congress is spending money like drunken sailors and they have the gall even to discuss raising gax taxes even one cent during this time of already sickening gas prices? Amazing.

So Washington wants more taxes from me to keep the road crews at work but they are spending 343 million dollars A DAY on war---some things are just so obviously stupid !!

There will be riots if another gas tax is imposed, people are at a breaking point and can't take any more taxes.

Where I live I already pay 40 cents of taxes on every gallon of gas now they want more.......when the Saudis ain't screwing us our own countrymen are !

If Congress puts another tax on gas at this time, they should all be voted out next time up. That would be about the stupidest thing they could do on the domestic front. But then... they're not exactly getting stellar approval points right now either.

"Tuesday, July 08, 2008 The percentage of voters who give Congress good or excellent ratings has fallen to single digits for the first time in Rasmussen Reports tracking history. This month, just 9% say Congress is doing a good or excellent job."

Dems are idiots. Some people don't live in an area where we have the choice to take mass transit, we must use our cars to go to work or shopping for groceries. All these dems in congress don't give a rats a$$ about the average Joe.

Why don't you move to Europe and pay $8 a gallon. We Americans don't want to.

We don't need another gas tax. We need to use alternate forms of fuel which have already been developed. We need to find our own fuel and stop reliance on foreign sources. We need to take care of ourselves first!

Damn Mad Max, I'm ready too.(really)

There will be one too. It's all the air-conditioned TV junkies that think otherwise. That so many are passionately backing the enemy (politicians) proves how clueless they are.
