Analysis: The end of American capitalism?

Maybe the reason our style of capitalism in such serious trouble is because credit is it's lifeblood. Doesn't it make more sense that being financially sound means being debt free?

You could expect no less than that from MSNBC.Maby its because no body watches them.They enjoy very low ratings.with the likes of Matthews,Oberman,Shyster,and now that other Air America loser,"Butchie" Maddow!

you never get only optimistic slant on anything with them.What do they propose a China style economy?

Asia need not worry about Wall Street if they start trading with each other. China and India alone comprise a market of more than 2 billion people. It is already now an economic power center and a center of wealth creation. Asia does not need Wall Street, it's greed, fraud and robber barons. Go for it Asia.

For America to create or at least maintain wealth, it needs a very cheap source of energy and Nuclear Power is the way to go.

Why must every thing always go up & up , profits be more and more , stocks go higher and higher , in perpetuity. This model is not sustainable. May be that is what causes these companies to cook books and use crazy “mark to make believe” accounting/ valuations , when in reality they cannot bring in more profits than the previous year. It is not wise to tie the countries future to such a unsustainable model.

Unending predatory greed based model has gotten us as far as it could, push for more will only bring progressively diminishing returns, in form of corruption , endless scams and ultimately system eating itself .

What makes you say that Jeffery Immelt is a liberal? I am a long time GE employee saw no liberal tendencies from either Immelt or Welch.

Welch caused GE's current state because of his greed and mismanagement. Welch squeezed GE dry for the sake of profits, but put nothing back into the company. He left nothing for Immelt to work with.

This country does not have capitalism but a corporatist Oligarchy. They write the rules to Always favor them , Oligarchy runs the country through their political drones that people vote for, but Oligarchy hijacks the politicians via “legal” lobbies. It is a racket , or nothing is what it appears to be. You're right. GE used to be a good company. They have fallen with the rest of the great companies of this country. There are lots of reasons but probably the biggest are greed and shortsightedness. GE never should have gotten involved in things like NBC. It weaken the company.

As you have said, I could see the handwriting on the wall a long time ago and sold my GE stocks. It doesn't do any good to worry about the financial situation. The best we can do is look out for ourselves and enjoy the nice fall weather. Oh yeah, and have a beer or two.

Money is just a convention of rules for a play game. Somehow a quite visible sector of the society depends on it but every game has players playing at different levels of attachments. The crisis affect directly who are addicted and might be generalized to the point that discreet "patronage" might decide to "host" otherwise. Therefore be alert and efficient with established good rules of civil democracy in the society.

As citizens, try to do things as usual with extra precautions and keep spirit high on civism.

As law makers and public officials/workers , stand right in accordance with reason and commonsense. Do not sign anything or obey anybody if there is no understanding or no logic. Defense of public interests come before personal loyalty, even the loyalty can be of filialness.

Hint: If the great majority of the population is left in distress in favor of further teasings to a minority of already opulent honorable or profitist/live-over citizens, then governments do not do a proper job.
