Survivors beg for help as Ike hits Texas

Massive Hurricane Ike ravaged southeast Texas early Saturday, battering the coast with driving rain and ferocious wind gusts as residents who decided too late they should have heeded orders to evacuate made futile calls for rescue.

Everything is big in Texas

There once was a blind man who decided to visit Texas.

When he arrived on the plane,he felt the seats and said, "Wow, these seats are big!"

The person next to him answered,"Everything is big in Texas."

When he finally arrived in Texas, he decided to visit a bar.
Upon arriving in the bar, he ordered a beer and got a mug placed between his hands. He exclaimed, "Wow these mugs are big!"

The bartender replied, "Everything is big in Texas."

After a couple of beers, the blind man asked the bartender where the bathroom was located. The bartender replied, "Second door to the right." The blind man headed for the bathroom, but accidentally went past the second door. Instead, he entered the third door, which lead to the swimming pool and fell into the pool by accident.

Scared to death, the blind man started shouting...

"Don't flush Don't flush!"

Go Jump In A Lake

For those who stayed, the only thing left to do is take off your hats, turn them over (while it's still raining of course), and jump in!

The people in Louisiana begged like children for help after their storm, but the people of Mississippi helped themself. If you want to have gas for cars everyone will help Texas, before the pertoleum companies can use this to gouge the American public AGAIN!!!

More 300,000 people ignored warnings that any attempt to ride the storm out could bring "certain death, according to the NOAA."

Since they were so brilliant to ignore those kind of warnings, they should be "ignored" rescue and wait for search and recovery when it's safer and the infrastructures are rebuilt.

I believe the precidence exists for this. The National Park Service for example, will charge for rescue operations when the rescued party ignores warnings or deliberately place themselves in harms way. Same goes for starting forest fires..

So yes - let's charge these morons!

I do not feel sorry for these people. As far as running to rescue them - too bad! No one should endanger their lives to rescue someone stupid enough to sit there and say "I can handle it".
They had been warned for days to get out. They knew what was coming and they chose to stay. So all I can say is deal with it.

It is unfortunate that these people made the mistake of not leaving when told, but they must not be left behind. They however should be billed for their rescue, the tax payers of Texas and the United States should not pay the bill for their foolishness.

If Dubya Bush wants to go out the door with a less scarred administration, he needs to get Congress to change funding for Iraq and transfer some funds to relief and rebuilding efforts of natural disasters for his own country including his own home state.
Iraq claims to have a surplus amount in excess of $70 BILLION in oil reserves but makes no effort to help themselves.
Let there be disasters in foreign countries and who's the first to come with aid ? But of course, the good old U.S.A. It's time to reciprocate. Fair is fair.
Maybe Cheney can help out a little and send some of the boys from Halliburton.

Those IDIOTS chose to remain even with all the dire warnings to leave. Why in the world should any of the emergency services available put their lives on the line to help them wasting unnecessary tax dollars for their own foolhardiness!
I would say to ALL of them "You Made Your Bed, now lay in it!!" Let them get together with each other and SAVE THEMSELVES

Hey Dummy, who else do you think pays for ANYTHING that ANYONE in DC does? The "jerks who elected them", that's who. In other words, we all PAY whether we voted for them or not and that includes all the give-away programs and freebies the democraps are so fond of...

No one is billing the New Orleans residents for any help they received after Katrina. The government is still paying for their rent and utilities elsewhere. As some may not have realized people were told to stay because an evacuation would be too dangerous (Ex. after Rita). Some people didn't leave because they spent that storm in their cars trying to leave.

Residents who do-not heeded evacuation warnings should pay for their rescue...
