Well not all the democrats "caved," e.g., Kucinich, in his Articles of Impeachment: "Article XXIV Spying on American Citizens, Without a Court-Ordered Warrant, in Violation of the Law and the Fourth Amendment Article XXV Directing Telecommunications Companies to Create an Illegal and Unconstitutional Database of the Private Telephone Numbers and Emails of American Citizens" Sounds good to me, maybe I'll even read the full texts: http://chun.afterdowningstreet.org/amomentoft...

The biggest hang up :) regarding the issue. The only thing salvaged was no lawsuits against the telephone companies.

At least the illegal wiretapping garnered two huge criminals in the war on terror. Elliot Spitzer William Jefferson Both democrats. Coincidence, maybe? Maybe NOT!

Its unnecessary to wiretape calls to the middle east and maybe the enemy and im a naive idiot? WHy are you paranoid that Bush is taping your calls?

Telephone companies who never wire tapped anyone without a court order prior to the GWB constitutional infringement, were between a rock and a hard place regarding wiretaps and lawsuits. Now people that were harmed can sue the government as the proper venue for their claim. They deserve every dollar. I take my comment back -- Dems caved in upon reading the article.

Compromising on freedom and rights is like being a little bit pregnant. Where do you draw the line and when does it stop being moved... I expect this 'baby' is going to be abused before it is repealed.

I need to say something here, first off we need to take a timeout and step back for a minute. Next it is very simple- any wiretapping is bad, and the technology to wiretap is bad as well. If the technology exsists, are you going to use it? The answer is probably yes. For example in Ohio they went to electronic voting- there was no paper trail for the 04 election. Technology is not always good. Here is the other thing, nobody here is united, you are all against the wiretapping, but then the conversation desends into anti-bush comments followed by bickering between Republicans and Democrats. When you walk into a party, you just hear noise, right. When you walk into a lecture you hear one voice. You want to sound like a lecture and tell your government NO to wiretapping. Now I am a Canadian and although our government is not perfect and yes needs some work, I feel confident that I am not being spied upon by them.(hopefully)

Where do you think the government gets its money? From us! The GOP agenda (or should I say the global corporate agenda?) appears to be to create an ineffectual U.S. government through bankruptcy. After all, isn't that how the iron curtain fell? Or was it because of Regan’s sense of humor? I forget. Truth gives me a headache.

The system, scheduled to begin operation this month, was paid for by the U.S. State Department and sold by Verint Systems Inc., a politically well-connected firm based in Melville, N.Y., that specializes in electronic surveillance NOW READ THIS EXCERPT CAREFULLY the contract specifications say the system is designed to allow both governments to “disseminate timely and accurate, actionable information to each country’s respective federal, state, local, private and international partners DOES ANYONE DO RESEARCH HERE? I would encourage people turned off by politically biased portals to go to the original article: http://articles.latimes.com/2007/may/25/world... It looks like Mexicans and Americans have more in common that we are encouraged to believe. Divide and conquer.
