Russians showing their true colors. They almost had the world believing their lies about Georgia but now it's obvious Putin is looking to bring back the Soviet Union. Let them try. Though I pity the poor Russian soldier that will be slaughtered by the tens of thousands should Russia actually act.

While I think under normal circumstances the U.S. would probably be able to "take" Russia, it should be noted that US forces are currently all in the Middle East, and exhausted as well.

Additionally, Poland has nothing in the way of a army or air force (my wife is from Poland).

In a pre-emptive strike, Russia would certainly attack US anti-missle sites anywhere, so what's new? This is saber rattling rhetoric without value beyond news filler and propaganda.

So what they are saying is

We will attack Poland if you put a defensive missile shield there.

In other words "We are going to use that as an excuse to attack Poland next."

Sounds very Saddam Like.....

Journalists should start asking the tough questions...

Was Georgian President Saakashvili in any way encouraged to attack Ossetia in the middle of the night, demolish whole neighborhoods and start this confrontation with Russia, or was he the sole perpetrator of these crimes against humanity?

Georgia was hardly armed to the teeth, We might consider that Russia sells weapons to its allies, including Iran, Syria, fighters to Venezuela and others.

Israel supplied defensive weapons to Georgia, they stopped selling drones after Russia complained and shot down a drone.

Its interesting as well that Russia, according to Human Rights Watch, used cluster bombs in the attack on Georgia. Russia has now made a threat against Poland, with a lightly veiled threat to use nuclear weapons. The type of attack in Georgia is a planned attack, Russia has taken advantage of the West's welcome to plan its moves.

There is no conspriacy as much as it might be an attractive idea to those that support Russia's behavior.

Human Rights Watch said Russia used cluster bombs. They also seem to imply that the human rights abuses seemed to be perpetuated more against the ethnic Georgian's then by them. Russia has much admitted to the same. Several Journalists have said that it was Russian troops that killed at least one Journalist and wounded others.

Clearly, the isolated Russian KGB brutal regime are making desperate moves and using desperate bold threats of nuclear attacks on NATO member if Poland will install defense system against Iranian and other rogue nation’s missiles.
It is time to realize that Russia must be isolated from the civilized world as partner of the Iranian rogue radical Islamic regime that Russia supports with nukes and dirty bombs that can be used by Islamic terrorist suicide bombers. Clearly, as usual the US radical liberals led by Barack Obama grandma Pelosi and the big loser Reid are blaming US for the Russian aggression and looting banks and stores in Georgia like the barbarians that took over Rome.
Supporting the worst enemies of US by the US liberal Dems that control US Congress is bad news for the American people that must vote out the anti-American corrupt liberal socialists that support the ex. KGB Putin.

Ahh, I see now. Chavez in Venezuela blames the US for Georgia-Russia conflict.

Is that where you pick up your news from?

They aren't left wing even, they are Chavez Democrats. Before this I would have said it was wrong to call them that. Now I see your statement, then an AP article that Chavez blames the US.

The US has already made a statement that they specifically told Georgia they would not be involved in an attack. You know why?

Because we do not want to fight with Russia, or anyone else. It is a last resort. We would rather the fighting stop and we build, sell, and trade together. The US people, the citizens, do not want to control other countries. We do not want to be controlled, and we are not so stupid that we do not realize that war brings an environment that by nature demands a loss of our rights. The world should choose its own path, within guidelines. The US should not have to continuously stand up to defend other countries. However, they are our allies, just as Russia has allies, and we will stand by our allies.

I'm not inclined to conspiracy theories either, but there is some significance to the fact that Russia called an emergency session of the UN before responding to the Georgian assault and the US and Britain rejected any action due to wording that condemned "use of force by either Georgia, or South Ossetia", a rather innocuous stance should it have been asserted. It's noteworthy, that now the US position is firstly to condemn any use of force.

It seems Human Rights Watch has documented the shelling of the hospital; NPR and other Western press don't mention it.

The blind assertions that whole Ossetian neighborhoods were flattened by the Georgians with direct artillery and tank fire, but the casualities at a damaged hospital refute Russian assertions is noteworthy, given the reality that body parts can't walk out from under rubble. Maybe Human Rights Watch should use their noses.

When they discover what's under the obliterated residential areas and confirm the number of injured civilians transported into North Ossetia and Russia, the human rights abuses may become more clear. It's difficult for anyone to get to, or have confidence in a hospital that's being intentionally shelled by Georgians.
