I don't know if anyone has told you this, Deliverance, but alcohol is a drug so I guess by your standards, you'll be standing in front of that firing squad, too. Didn't think about that, did ya Mr. Beam? |

Amount of vehicular homicides due to alcohol intoxication; http://pubs.niaaa.nih.gov/publications/arh27-... So, how many deaths on average due strictly to alcohol? "Every day, almost 30 people in the United States die in motor vehicle crashes that involve an alcohol-impaired driver. This amounts to one death every 48 minutes.1 The annual cost of alcohol-related crashes totals more than $51 billion.2 " http://www.cdc.gov/Motorvehiclesafety/Impaire... I would never try to equate one or two circumtances in comparison to what alcohol related deaths and diseases have done to the U.S. |

The way our planet deals with the marijuana issue highlights how insane our species is. People will always smoke it and it will always be impossible to stop especially with the new indoor growing systems.
So instead of controlling and profiting from a $17 billion a year industry government continue to stick their heads in the sand and act like infants. Yes marijuana does lead to other drugs because you have to go to an illegal drug dealer to buy it and so you come into contact with the real bad drugs. If it were legal and available in shops most people may try it and walk away because the thrill factor is gone. Funny how Holland has the lowest marijuana use in the world amongst teenagers when they allow it to be sold in shops. Humans are very stupid indeed. |

"Yes marijuana does lead to other drugs because you have to go to an illegal drug dealer to buy it and so you come into contact with the real bad drugs." Really? That has to be the winner for the most innane comment made on this thread since its inception. Or.......hmmm......, could you maybe be 12 years old? |
Why it is fact, when I lived in Holland I never came into contact with any hard drugs because I used the coffee shops but in the USA and Britain my weed dealers are always trying to sell me cocaine, speed and ecstasy. |

Are they successful? |

They were with me many years ago and they are with others now, why can’t people understand that drug dealers are just business people. It is their job to get customers hooked; in the UK they are now experimenting with chemicals to make weed heavier so the customer gets less for the same money. They are also using addictive chemicals in the growing of it, I have been smoking since 1980, had my own plantation so know a fair bit about it. In the old days when I travelled and could not smoke I had no problem adjusting but these days the withdrawal symptoms are chemical related due to indoor grow systems. This would not happen if the government grew it. |
Forget "sell", sheeit, my neighborhood dealer has a dam free sample plate out when I go buy my weed. All kinds of pills, powders, crystals, liquids, you name it. And once in a while I see a stoner take the bait and get hookeds. Peace out. |

Thanks for that info, I am trying hard to get governments to wake up so comments like this will make it easier. Long live the herb and down with all other junk. |

"Long live the herb and down with all other junk." I agree, but my interest is mainly in the revenue it could generate. |

Judged: 1 1 Not just the smokable herb, but the $600million that could go to American farmers instead of imports for industrial hemp. |

Judged: 1 1 1 Me too, I am actually in the process of slowing down on my herb consumption, I don’t smoke for a week or two and then I will have a bit of fun on a Saturday night when I smoke 1 joint, its working out really well. Check this out, I figure a fair basic income for a family with 3 children in the USA would be around $40 000 a year. Yes I know it isn’t a lot but all I am talking about is pulling people out of poverty and giving them the basics like food, housing, schooling and medical. The marijuana industry in the USA is reputed to be worth around $17 billion a year, now if even the most useless business people took over the industry and it cost them $5 billion to grow the product and get it to market, shops, transport, etc. That would leave $12 billion to help poverty stricken people. Now if you give poverty stricken families $40 000 each a year that means with $12 billion we could take 300 000 families out of poverty and if the average family consisted of 2 adults and 3 children that would mean 1 500 000 people were given a much better life just because of herb sales. Of course if the industry was run efficiently many more families could be helped, these fools who think that keeping marijuana illegal is a good idea are just that, fools. And the real punch line is that they are never going to stop people from smoking it, talk about living in denial! |

Judged: 1 Of course, being legalized, it could have the sh!t taxed out of it and still be affordable. And the jobs it would produce, my God! It's a 24/7, 365 days a year industry. Definitely legalize, regulate and tax it. Let's get these joints rolling!!! |

Another little acknowledged fact about the issue is the resources that dealing with an illegal marijuana trade requires.
Governments should think about how many police officers and other personnel who could be freed up when the herb is legalized. Just think what a dent they could make in other far more pressing issues like murder, rape, abuse and hard drugs with all those extra resources? |

Noticed something quite funny, people go against me because I say marijuana leads to other drugs because you have to go to an illegal dealer who deals other drugs to get your smoke.
They say it isn’t true, maybe they should read all the thread titles on this page, lol! |
