Wuterich can expect leniency in return for his expressing remorse and guilty plea: full reduction in rank, a few years in the brig and a dishonorable discharge.

He pled guilty to dereliction of duty and will get a MAXIMUM of three months confinement. He probably will serve less. The article didn't say whether he would be discharged (if I were him I would ask for a discharge on principle). At the end of the day a discharge is at the discretion of the Commander (according to the UCMJ)
