Raise taxes, institute bans and prosecute parents that allow/encourge overweight children (child abuse).

I totally agree with you. but, you can't only blame the kids. they are doing what they see their parents do. My brother who is 43, sits his lazy ass in front of the idiot box at lease 5-6 hours a day watching mindless Kung Fu movies. His 4 year old son sits right next to him. And he wants to know why the child is language delayed and has social problems.

UNFORTUNATELY the signals kids receive from peers and the culture does not reinforce positive/healthy habits, only immediate gratification and deviant behavior. 10 year olds have no problems getting into R rated movies. How many ERECTION medication commericals are children exposed to every week.......and similar TV trash. It wasn't so long ago Barbara Eden wasn't permitted to expose her belly button on network TV.

Well, then parents need to raise their children close to them. I rarely allowed my son to watch any television at all. And when I moved, he moved. He was in church every Sunday and at my grandmothers house dressed every Sunday for Sunday dinner. Every Saturday we went to street festivals, bowling, bicycling, etc. He didn't have the time to hang around his "friends" that much. His playmates were mostly family members. However, my contention is that as long as I pay the bills, I will dictate what goes on...PERIOD. My house was NOT a democracy and even though my son is 25 years old, it still is not. He now lives on his own with what I believe are a solid set of values.

You've got a solid point there, but I can't help but wonder how a parent today who may or may not have grown up around computers within the past 20 years can be so far out of the loop.

I suppose I could be that I exsist in that nebulous threshold between two generations, the younger and more savvy and the older, casual user.

By and by I believe dad should express concern own health, me thinks, and explore offsets to the idle time spent in morning/evening gridlock.

At the very least his son may ultimately develop some sturdy wrists.

Most of the people inthis country for my perspective are LAZY, INGNORANT, AND COMPLETELY LACKING IN PERSONAL RESPONSIBILITY. I guess with this report coming out, I was right.

BTW, fat doesn't always equal lazy, ignorant, or lacking in personal responsibility. There are many reasons as to why a person gains weight. Illness, injury, glandular problems, all the artificial crap that's put into the processed food that we eat.....none of this is good for the human metabolism.
