Obama as a great hope, no matter his color

The election of Barack Obama as president would no more end the racial divide in America than the fielding of Jackie Robinson as a Brooklyn Dodger did back in 1947.

Well first he has to get elected and I don't see that happening. I don't know anyone personally that will vote for him. However, if by some chance he does get elected, I hope his supporters are still around so WE can say "I told you so".

Barak Obama, if elected, is going to set "race relations" back into the 1950's.

The man is NOT qualified to be president.

He will be another Jimmy Carter at best.

One side will say "SEE, see we knew a black man would screw it all up"

The other side will say "SEE, the white man can't take a black man for president so they set him up for failure"

Personally, I couldn't care less what shade my president's skin is. But many of you would prefer it to be darker.

If you really think it matters, than you should try to get somebody with dark skin who is qualified. Somebody who can do more than read pre-written speeches well.

With the choice`s that we have for president, and the lack of direction that this new president will take us, I think it`s time to think about how the fish will be biting on election day. I am not voting for either one of these moron`s.

I find this article a stunning contrast to the discussion of the race issue and an assessment of Obama's campaign that I read in this morning's WSJ (Both written by a black journalist, of course, lest anyone be called "racist").
It just goes to show that it's not just the online media outlets (websites) that are biased. It's become one big blurr - Just as online, If you want a glimmering assessment of Obama, you know where to get your "news" - and if you want a not-so glimmering assessment - you know where to get yours.:) Why does the internet always get this rap when the same is true in print and TV media?

Obama will not end the racial divide in our country, nor will anyone else so this election is not changing anything as far as race. The election is about a continuation of four more years of a known quantity in McCain who is part of the Bush neocon Iraq big oil war machine, privatize Social Security, tax cuts for the wealthy trickle down economics that has bankrupted our country, seen the dollar crash, oil go through the roof and watched the home values go down the toilet. Same ole, same ole. Can"t continue to live like this. I accept the premise that all politicians are liars including Obama but time for the country to reverse course and head home in a new direction unfortunately no matter where it takes us. We know where the Republicans have taken us. Can't stand the loser left wing democrats but Bonzai.

My sense is that individuals within minorities tend to generally be more prejudice or sensitive to their difference than individuals within majorities.

The reason is that for certain areas of the country, people living within a majority group may very rarely cross paths with a member of the minority group.

The point here is that a lot of prejudice is perpetuated by members of the minority group itself, whether because they feel themselves superior or inferior over others.

Personally, I dont see Obama's race. I hear what he says, and find that he speaks my language.

And why are both "sides" here only advantageous to your beliefs?

Your comment reminds me of an argument I had with a nephew right after 9/11 when he wouldn't stop praising GW.(He listens to Rush daily, so you can imagine.) I said something like "Let's have this discussion 5 years from now." (Of course I didn't expect a 2nd term, or I would have said 9 yrs.)- Anyhow, he's coming for a visit in a few weeks I can't wait to start the "remember when you said" discussion.:)

The big difference in my analogy here is, of course - my predictions came to pass, while yours are just vengeful wishful thinking.

(What you basically have here is a McCain supporter giving you the right wing talking points- even with the disclaimer about "personally" not being concerned with skin color - Yeah, right.)

Yes...Barrack with his 3 years in the US senate-one and half years of them on the campaign trail, is going to walk on water and CHANGE everything overnight. He will just raise his hands and we will all be saved.
As Michelle Obama said our soles are broken. I guess only Obama gave save us.. If you think more entitlements, big government spending, setting a time table for defeat in Iraq and free health at the expanse of US tax payers for 47 million people, which 12-15 million of them are illegal is a good thing, then vote for the Marxist candidate Obama.

O my god how shallow we are. The president is not about race, it is about who is the best person to lead us .
We need a leader that will work with both parties. Mcain has shown he will cross party line. Obama has not.
We are moving into real hard times. Mcain realizes this Obama and the democrats do not. An increase in taxes will only hurt everybody not help.
I run a small company that is world wide. My taxes increase I will have to drop ins or benifits on my employees to stay open.

This is the typical Republican "bumber sticker" message that I've heard repeated - again ad again for numerous Democratic candidates. It sounds like something only an idiot like Sean Hannity would say!

OF COURSE you don't know anyone who would vote for him - you hard-core conservatives live in a shell where only "your kind" are allowed entry and anyone who thinks outside that box is just ignored or shunned as "un-American".

It will be great when Obama gets in. He wants to pay my mortgage,my credit bills, pay for health care, and for higher education for all.
Man, that means I don't have to work. All of those things will be taken care of for me.
I don't know where the money will come from but it is usually the middle class. But if the middle class has no incentive to work because everything will be paid for, where will the money come from?
I think we are being tricked into thinking that Mr Obama has a plan.
The rich won't care if they get taxed more. The will add it on to their business expense and the costs and prices of items will increase to the middle class consumers.
So, I will be quitting my job when MR Obama gets in because he will take care of me and others that don't want to work.
And, I want to thank all of the people voting for Mr Obama and all of you middle class people that will be supporting me. I think I will use my credit card and vacation in Aruba after I quit my job.
It's gonna be great.

Who is barrack Hussein Obama?

Does any body know? What has he done thats important?.Why does he have so much racial controversy surrounding him? Will his poor choices, and decisions ,and faulty judgment effect the Nation,if elected? Will he still be prone to "Amnesia when confronted by sensitive issue's which reflect on him?

What is his "Jim Jones" appeal to so many?

These and a lot of other Questions are not being addressed too.

The media would have you believe he will win the Whitehouse, yet Democrats in many states reject him.

So far I know this,he has characteristics which are dividing the country.

This in a most volatile way, along racial issues. This of his own doing, there is no question about that. A nation divided can not stand.

Its not Democrats vs Republicans, liberal vs Conservative, but now to exclusively interject race into the debate.

The "Obama's" alone have made this a Racist choice.Their associations, and choice of words show that!
look at the voting patterns.Black and white divisions, are strong.

We will be a poorer, divided, country if Obama becomes commander in Chief!

Typical baiting headline. Does anyone else see?

"Obama as a great hope, no matter his color"

Why not just say Obama is a great hope? Why mention his color at all? Why not add how he speaks well, for a man of color?

I would much rather read about his issues and accomplishments without throwing in his race as if to say that makes him special. He is not special because of his race. He should be liked or disliked because of his character and what actions he has taken or will take, not on the color of his skin.

I find it a form of race baiting when a headline has to direct the reader's attention to the color of the man's skin in order to say something about him. We all already know he is dark skinned, can we move on?
