Well, now she'll have lots of time to reflect and still don't think 25 years is justice. A knife in the mother's eye? Whoa, that's disturbing. And *if* the mother was an alcoholic, why did the father keep his daughter in that environment? Still, murder is not the answer.
Don't worry. Little miss fresh fish patties will have plenty to do.

You are so right. My father was a baptist minister. He never pushed religion on me but lived his faith for us to see. Now here I am five times married, not going to church. Not because I'm a non-believer but just don't want to go. I do, however retain the values that I was taught now that I'm getting older. Thanks for such an intelligent post and Yes, it is the nature of individuality and the BEAUTY of it as well!!!<quoted text>

Oh, Danielle, I hope I didn't mislead you. I was not the best mother always. It took many years of worry, which didn't accomplish anything. But I guess what I was getting at is my kids and I are close enough and always have been that I could never have imagined murder as a thought that ever entered their heads. I'm sure you see it all as a high school teacher. Back in the day I worked as a library assistant at a local high school and when those kids came in there it was terrible the way they behaved. I fear for the youth of today and appreciate you for what you are doing..That's another thing they need. Good teacher's who care. Maybe it'll sink in for them with a good support system..You are very brave for even trying.
Danielle wrote:
Well you've probably have very respectable kids. I deal with highschool students on a daily basis and it's horrrible to see who might running the country in a few short years. And alot of this kids just don't know any better their parents have just been conditioning them to think that they had to stay in a certain way of life and that's why we have 14 year old moms and 15 highschool drop outs. They just don't care anymore. They need more than just reaSoning they need to no that your word is final no "ifs" "ands" or "buts". But if you can accomplish that with words, I think very highly of you.

Thanks for your reply. This subject is so hard to understand but your reasons (or excuses) what a warped mind or evil mind could come up with make perfect sense.I agree with all my heart that parenting shouldn't be taken so lightly and your idea of classes is excellent. And counseling before having children. I didn't have it when I raised my kids but I certainly wish I had. It makes me lose sleep when something like this happens. When this girl comes out of her shock, which she surely is feeling even if she doesn't show remorse, she will wake up one day and realize what she's done. Too Late...

Not only that but for someone to do this they:
a. think they can get away with it
b. have a lack of conscience
c. have some mental inbalance (some do!)
d. are so angry they are driven to rage to kill their own parent
None of the options sounds very good, all but one is still a blame on the PERSON the question is 'do we blame the child'? I think it's about time we begin to expect more from parents and from society regarding how the children are raised. Somewhere (and this is becoming a wider spread problem) along the line children in our society became very rude, very impolite, very assertive, not respectful of authority (notice I didn't say afraid of), and why should they? If they're under 18 they practically get away with...well, Murder!
If this girl was a little older I don't think she would get life, she would be eligible for the death penalty. I'm not saying she deserves it or not, I know she is young and her brain is still growing, but COMEON. Who, at her age, knew it was wrong to kill your mother? You have to be above 18 years old to have that realization?
I don't see why we don't require parents to get parental licenses like any other license we're required to have and keep updated. Get some parenting classes, take some tests every other year to keep up with how to raise your children. Go to any high school these days and just sit and watch for a while, go to the home of any average teenage chlid's home and just watch the interaction. The bond of respect and dedication to the family is completely broken down.
I didn't realize that until I moved out of the states a couple of years ago to take a job here in Egypt. You cannot imagine the dedication, the respect, the loyalty and love the children (teenagers) here have for their parents in comparison. It makes me ashamed.

Her father testified that her mom was an abusive alcoholic.
What she did was wrong, even if she only did the cover up for her boyfriend.
However, I find the judge a hypocrite to convict her as a murderer instead of as accessory to murder when mothers who allow their babies to be murdered with sharp objects or to be disposed of in the trash like a piece of garbage after a botched abortion are not punished by law together with the so-called doctor.

Well see the thing is Simon, murderers often don't tell the truth. The prosecution made some very valid observations based on her testimony.*She* feels guilty for something *she* didn't do. She this, she that. It was all about her. Her mother was murdered and she can only talk about her own feelings, not the pain and terror her mother suffered, but her *own* emotions and suffering. Major red flag right there. Major. Then there's the forensic evidence that puts two attackers on the body, while she says there was only one.

As for your pro life view Simon...good for you I guess. The less abortions there are the better.

Sounds like that boyfriend pulled a Charley Manson on her.
He made her do it. Therefore it's not fair to her to have to stay in jail.

I coud give her a good and safe home.{kaf kaff}

Lets lay the blame where it really should be.
Just about every one of our major problems with society we are experiencing today has originated in the Supreme Court.
The children can't be disiplined at home, the teachers are forbidden to correct them, the principal runs and hides when problems are brought to them. Why? Court rulings by some old prunes that never had children.
A few licks with a razor strap straightened out a lot of the young minds and made them productive teenagers without the use of ANY DRUGS. I don't know of any kids that were hurt except for their feelings. One certanty though, they sure thought about the consequences twice before doing it again. A teacher with a ping-pong paddle got a lot of young minds on the right track. When they got home they sure didn't mention it to the parents or Dad would lay it on them again. Didn't need the cops to get involved in trhose days. When I would enroll my boys at the first of the year I would tell the tracher and principal in front of the boys that "If they cause any problems at school you have my permission to dicipline them. If you can't handle it at school, send them home to me. I will handle it". they would take their "licks" at school because they knew they deserved diciplining. They admired and respected all of their teachers. The ones they liked the most, even to this day, is the ones that were the hardest on them. School is not a place for babysitting. It is a place where they learn values and constructive ideas.
To many judges have broken down our way of life.
Judges are made from lawyers, and I have never known of an honest lawyer. Laws are passed by lawyers elected to the governing bodies. More laws equals the opportunity for them to make more money. The lawyers and judges are all of the same fraternity, the lawyers union so to speak.
To many cases are decided over a three martini lunch attended by the judge and opposing lawyers.
One says "I really need to win this case, I will let you win the next one". Judge says "OK,that is the way it will be".
AND ALL THIS IS THE TRUTH, ISN'T IT?

Those things certainly didn't HELP but IMO the root of the problem stems from time spent with the child. Look at the instances of those children who are home-schooled or where a parent stays home with them....look at the stats of juvinile deliquency, crime, drug use, grades, graduates and college graduates where the child had at least one parent home.

I used to HATE Dr. Laura (remember her?) but looking back I see she may have had a point in this issue. You put both parents out trying to make a living, take away the rights of the parents, teachers and leave the child to their own rules you end up with Lord of the Flies.

I've got the konk: this problem will not be fixed anytime soon as the economy is going to assure Americans will have to keep working longer, harder and for less cash. The children will suffer.
Welcome to the new reality my friends.

Todays society my ass.

This sick little bitch DECIDED she wanted to kill her mother.

She and her boyfriend should be put to death.

What they did is what matters-not why they did it.

It's needle sticking time for those two pieces of human feces.

It is beyond comprehension that some people want to justify what this girl and her boyfriend did.

It was callous-premeditated murder.

They should both be put to death.

They decided they were adult enough to kill-now be adult enough to take the ultimate adult penalty for the crime.
