Rachael Mullenix, the Huntington Beach teenager who conspired with her love-struck boyfriend to murder her mother and dump the slashed body into Newport Harbor, expressed only grudging and limited remorse Friday as a judge sentenced her to 25 years to life in prison.

2 I'm gonna run away Don't!! 'cause you can never go home anymore SPOKEN: Listen. Does this sound familiar? You wake up every morning, go to school every day, spend your nights on the corner just passing the time away. Your life is so lonely like a child without a toy. Then a miracle-a boy. And that's called "glad." Now my mom is a good mom and she loves me with all her heart. But she said I was too young to be in love and the boy and I would have to part. And no matter how I ranted and raved, I screamed, I pleaded, I cried-she told me it was not really love but only my girlish pride. And that's called "bad." (Never go home anymore) SPOKEN: Now if that's happened to you, don't let this. I packed my clothes and left home that night. Though she begged me to stay, I was sure I was right. And you know something funny?? I forgot that boy right away. Instead I remember being tucked in bed and hearing my mama say (Hush, little baby, don't you cry) (Mama won't go away) Mama!!! (You can never go home anymore) Mama!!! I can never go home anymore SPOKEN: Do you ever get that feeling and wanna kiss and hug her? Do it now- tell her you love her. Don't do to your mom what I did to mine. She grew so lonely in the end. Angels picked her for a friend. (Never) And I can never go home (never) anymore And that's called "sad." I HOPE THAT THIS SONG is played 24 hours a day, piped into her cell until one fateful morning she wakes up screaming, remembering what she has done. It might take awhile. No remorse? He regret? Wait until you are forty and still rotting away. |

1 It truly is getting worse, there is absolutely a lack of respect for parents in a big big way. I'm not sure who to blame anymore, the parents, the society, the power taken away from the parents to really disclipine anymore. It's a damn shame. Well, at least she isn't grounded anymore...err wait~ |

1 That's right, blame "society." In the general sense there is merit in what you say. But the fact of the matter is that "WE" are society. While most of us, no matter how hard the task may be, do all we can to instill the proper values in our children. And we allow other responsible people in our society to help us do that. It is a shame that we never hear about the 80% who grow up and become productive citizens. We hear about the ones who grow up and become our leaders and we hear about the ones who commit horrible acts against our society. But when do we ever hear about those who are somewhere in between?....Yeah, you know them, the mainstream Americans. Whether they be rich or poor, white, black, brown, yellow, green, or blue they are the lifeblood of America. Every time I hear a story like that of Rachael Mullenix I am saddened. But I am also thankful for the many others of her generation who will go to become "mainstream Americans." |

2 It takes awhile for kids to open their eyes and realize what selfish, pathological deviants their parents were. |

1 Any way, I don't think in some cases the parents are around enough for the kids. They get distanced from them and the kids take on a fend for myself attitude. I ask myself all the time, what would my friends kid want more, that new video game or to spend a weekend with his dad. Which would be the greater gift to the child? Of course in the present for the child it would be the video game, but in the long run the weekend with dad is the much better gift. Kids are also facing more pressures then we faced as youngsters. They are bombarded with doomsday messages on the news, gas shortages, wars, banks foreclosing, global warming. Just some random thoughts from a clutterd mind. |
