These are not public records and you have no inherent right to see them.

Private individuals and organizations often donate their records to an archive with the proviso that all or part is restricted or closed for a period of years. There can be many legitimate reasons for doing this and it is standard practice throughout the profession.

Before you yell "cover-up!" Mr. Kass you owe it to your readers and all persons mentioned in your story to call an archivist at UIC and ask about the terms of this gift.

I believe that John McCain"s first wife was still taking care of and till this day they are friends. The real news now is Obama's brother has been found living in the ghettoes of Narobi, on a dollar a day, in a hut. Obama mentions him in his book and last seen him in 2006 (for a few minutes). The brother also has been quoted my the London Daily Telegraph as saying"If anyone says something about my surname, I say we are not related. I am ashamed," he said.

The holdouts tend to like McCain more than Obama and have more confidence in McCain’s ability to be commander-in-chief.

Would Clinton add to the ticket? Apparently. The poll shows Obama leading McCain by three points. If Clinton were at the top of the ticket, she would be leading McCain by eight.

The university in Hyde Park is the University of Chicago, a private institution on the South Side of Chicago. The University of Illinois at Chicago is a public, state-run (not city-run) university in downtown Chicago. They are not the same schools, and neither the city nor Obama has any control over what goes on at the UIC library, which also acts as a repository of various state documents, not all of which are readily available for public consumption.

It's been eight years since that guy has been asked to release his hidden records but he still refuses.

I seem to recall that the Obama people were just furious at the Clinton campaign for refusing to release her tax records or the donors to the Clinton Presidential Library. I guess selective secrecy is the operative policy for Obama.

The bigger point is this- that a library should be a place that promotes research and free access to information to all people. If publicly funded libraries begin to shut their doors to selected individuals based on their political leanings, then the whole rationale for the existence of libraries ceases to exist. I cannot believe that anyone would actually favor denying anyone access to a library. This is certainly not a position that an education activist, such as Bill Ayers, would support.

If they did not want the papers to be public, then they should not have been donated to a public library. But since they have been, Mr. Kurtz has every right to see them. The reasons proffered by UIC seem disingenious to me.

I believe that we need change, but wanting someone who has very little experience, has numerous connections with terrorists and other disreputable characters, who was involved in the extremely corrupt politics of Chicago government is just bizarre. What about the political rats that run UIC. UIC has been bought and paid for by Daley. UIC is the istitution that employs Ayers and acts like Igor to King Daley. It's way past time that the sewer that is UIC was cleaned up. Any entity that spends about a billion dollars a year in Chicago is not on the up and up. How are all of those construction contracts awarded and all of that hiring carried out? Where is the US Attorney and the FBI? Asleep?
