Mr Ayers's past as a terrorist pales in comparison to the terror of his plans for educating America's schoolchildren, which for years have been gaining steam in the education field. That is the biggest issue with regard to the Ayers-Obama relationship and their work on the Chicago Annenberg Challenge. The GOP and conservatives in general -- not to mention liberals -- have completely overlooked the education issue to this day, and which involves Obama's chief education advisors. Yet while the Clinton and McCain campaigns were out batting the bushes for dirt on Obama, Dr Stephen Diamond -- a leftist law professor, political scientist and labor organizer -- has, since April, been jumping up and down and yelling and screaming on his Global Labor and Politics blog about the education issue and the Ayers-Obama-CAC connection. This has led me to speculate that the opposition research team for the McCain campaign consists of two hamsters and a beer garden manager in Bavaria. The same might be said for the Clinton campaign. As for the quality of research of our nation's news media with regard to Mr Obama's time in Chicago, I will tactfully avoid comment because it's not nice to insult the mentally challenged. Diamond has churned out so many essays on the CAC and related topics that the best I can do is provide the link to his latest post, and recommend that Chicago Tribune readers go back to Global Labor's April archives and work their way forward. That is, if they want to get informed on one of the most important issues of our era for American parents with children in public schools. Understand this: Mr Ayers and his "social justice" crew in education are not playing around. http://globallabor.blogspot.com/2008/08/behin...

Please keep shining the light on this - it may not shame them into releasing the papers, but maybe they'll refrain from destroying this historic record. I've got no confidence in the library's integrity now; nothing but public scrutiny will preserve the documents.

Thanks, Mr. Kass, for exposing the run around UIC, the unknown document donor and Daley are giving the press.
The library sent Mr. Kurtz an index of the documents included in those boxes, of which only a few documents were marked "private" (or something along those lines). You can bet those documents are being "cleaned" right now.
It is easy for Chicago politicians who are part of the machine to run for office without being properly vetted. These people are anointed to office not elected. Well, unfortunately for Obama, he is running in the big leagues now, and that is not going to fly. He is an unknown commodity to most of the public. Covering up records that may shed some light on his past is not going to help him and it will actually hurt him.
Obama has said Ayers was just some guy who lived in his Hyde Park neighborhood. Is Barack concerned these records show something more? Is it maybe because this "education" project was founded by Ayers and Barack was on the board for years? At first glance this sounds like more that just neighbors.
Maybe it's another organization that Ayers founded, Weather Underground, that may give others heartache. Since it's main goal was domestic terrorist with planting bombs. Ayers is unrepentant about his past.
It sure seems like Obama's few months in the public spotlight have brought up many questions about his associations and his judgement.
In Chicago, Obama would still be elected in a landslide, nationally he will be rejected...and the polls are now showing this.
So the Obama camp and friends can keep records hidden. The American public can keep their votes from Obama.

What a surprise, Obama and friends covering up unfavorable documents.
Yes, Barack, this looks like a fine demonstration of the new kind of politician you are.
Obama is an unknown. And the things that are slowly coming to light are not good. I don't blame Obama and friends from refusing to release the records. Sometimes the truth hurts.

"Sam Graham-Felsen, hired to run Obama's blog, writes about Noam Chomsky in a Marxist publications that openly calls for revolution against the American government. This is a Presidential candidate's choice to run the on-line portion of his campaign. That speaks volumes of his character and worldview. Contradicting what he says in public, Obama is surrounding himself with poeple who never seem to learn that their absurd ideologies end in misery and ruin. Sam is young and has much to learn, so we can forgive his silly hagiographies, the ones about Chomsky and the ones about Obama. His hero worship is eager and emotional and completely without substance, much as Obama's campaign promises are without substance. Obama is a community organizer in the Saul Alinsky mold, and knows where to get people like Sam who have energy and drive. His staff is nothing if not energetic. He even cut his activist teeth in Chicago, the stomping grounds of Alinsky and so many others in the "progressive" community. One wonders why the windy city still has a murder rate higher than Baghdad, after so many years of enlightened activism. The adults in the Obama campaign expect us to believe that a campaign staff filled with Marxists and radicals does not reflect the candidate. We are supposed to believe that ideologues who distain America and Americans can improve the system that has brought humanity more prosperity and well-being than any nation before it. Speaking out of both sides of their mouths, they tell us we are great, and then insist we must change because we are responsible for all the bad things that happen in the world. That alone should anger the electorate enough to defeat them. The change Obama will bring will not be the change America needs or expects. It will be the change of naive adolescents, which think Noam Chomsky wise." - The American Thinker

So let me see if I've got this right: Barry can get his REPUBLICAN OPPONENTS' SEALED DIVORCE RECORDS unsealed, but nobodys' allowed to see papers involving someone who MIGHT be the next Leader of the FREE WORLD? THIS is your Democrat Party at work. They LIE, they CHEAT, they STEAL, they CRUSH any dissent, and half of this country thinks that their s**t don't stink. Thank you Public Education. Is it 2012 yet?

I suggest that Mr. Kass and the Tribune editors go back to the editorial board's interview with Mr. Obama and re-read his answers about his relationship with terrorist Ayers. "Just friends," he said. "A neighbor." It has been documented elsewhere that the relationship with the ant-American Ayers was much closer than that, that it was Ayers and wife/terrorist Dohrn who hosted the event that launched Obama's first candidacy. The Annenberg grant of about $50 million was largely administered by Ayers and Obama, according to some reports, and one of the recommendations was that prisons be abolished and the convicts "be confined to home arrest." Wonderful. What next? Secretary of Home Security for Ayers if Obama's elected?

Barry also used the divorce records of his Democrate opponent (Blair Hull) to eliminate him. How about Barry's first run for State Senate, when he got all four primary opponents thrown off the ballot. Now that's change Trotsky would believe in.

Your story implies that a candidate for president actually worked on educational issues, versus just providing the usual lip service. Thanks for the insight.

Where is McCarthy when we need him? Those who failed history are doomed to repeat it. We should immediately blacklist anyone who has ever had lunch with Mr. Ayers since they must be terrrorist's by association.

Oh and Bush's National Guard and drunk/druggie driving records? Uh disappeared somewhere in Texas. Not that I thought they were relevant anyway.
Give me a break, Kass, this is so lame. National Review, with their obvious agenda, sends a muckraker (like you) to stir up irrelevant garbage. A respected academic institution responsibly shows he and his fellow slimeballs the door by blocking access. Good for them. Historians don't work contemporaneously. You should know that. Let's talk policy, not guilt by association.

Kass, you are a nincompoop. The library in question is run by the University of Illinois, not the Daley family, and not Obama. You imply that since the name on the library is Daley, the mayor is involved in this decision, which you know isn't true. Your attempts at guilt by assocation between Obama and Ayers are typically full of innuendo, but lacking in all facts. It's like someone accusing you of supporting pedophelia because you were friends of Tribune columnist Bob Greene when he had a relationship with an underage teenage girl. I'm sure that's a ridiculous accusation, but it's probably closer to reality than Obama/Ayers because you actually know Greene when the activity was occuring.

This is a HUGE issue. Can you imagine how big it would be if Obama had actually worked along side one of the people behind the largest S&L scandals of all time -- that would be total guilt by association.
Oh wait, he did! He worked with a member of the Keating Five! WE FINALLY GOT OBAMA ON THIS ONE!
You know what you call the Keating Five without John McCain? The Keating Four.
Serious times, serious issues. Let's move on Kass. If I want to hear about Ayer's I will watch Fox.
Waiting for you to right the details of how McCain cheated on his disfigured wife -- now that is important new and will change the way this country moves forward out of the mess we are in.
