The Return of McCain's Keating 5 Scandal

In the 1980s, McCain strong-armed federal regulators to protect Charles Keating, the crooked banker at the center of the S&L crisis. McCain had accepted $112,000 in campaign contributions, gifts, and trips from Keating, a McCain family friend. Keating went to prison; McCain was only rebuked by the Senate Ethics Committee for his "poor judgment."

It's all about McCain's shady character, corruption, incompetence, and poor judgement. Experience you CANNOT count on, change you CANNOT believe in. It's not the kind of leadership we want or deserve. We see that the Keating Five debacle is history repeating itself today. We need to stop the DENIAL and vote McCain out, to start fresh, with NEW leadership and HOPE.

You are STILL quibbling about Obama's birth in Hawaii and your proof is a copy of another birth certificate from 1930 when Hawaii wasn't even a State??? You need to get some fresh air, if you can find some. No one is making a big stink about McCain, who on the other hand was clearly BORN IN THE COUNTRY of PANAMA.

Notwithstanding, that is the least of McCain's problems. McCain participated in the Keating five. He has a long a history of corruption involving our financial markets.

The latest poll shows that 60% of Americans think another DEPRESSION is likely.

McCain, by his own admission knows nothing about economics or technology.

McCain's chief advisor, going back to his "Keating" days has always been Phil Gramm, who was still advising him in his presidential campaign this year, until he had to be fired.

Gramm is the number one advocate of DEREGULATION and complained that Americans were whiners experiencing a "mental recession".

I would like to see McCain and Gramm go to jail for fraud. That would make the oncoming DEPRESSION slightly more bearable.

Senator McCain should lay off of Obama's connection with Bill Ayers.

Instead he should point out what the Reverend Jeremiah Wright stated at his rant at the National Press Club in Washington D.C. Reverend Wright stated "Barack Obama is a politician and he will say anything to get himself elected". This is a very evealing statement from someone who mentored Obama for over twenty years.

P.S. Federal prosecutors in Chicago told Rezko's judge that they have entered into plea negotiations with Tony Rezko. What is he saying?

McCain showing desperation and grasping at straws.
The No. 1 issue is the economy and the wagons have surrounded the old fool.
Unless he takes a quick refresher course with his anger management, then he can easily lose the election without any help from Palin.

There is a reason why McCain Adviser says that if we "talk about the Economy, we will lose!" That is because they have no good ideas on the economy for the Middle Class. Their ideas and solutions only benefit the rich, well-off and well-connected!

Meanwhile the most clear and present threat from China is their capitalism. Made in China is the most published modern phrase. By investing the proceeds of their national productivity they have become the kings of capitalism and are now the primary source of goods worldwide. It is not their pretended politics of communism that we should be concerned about. We already have that here. We have been outsourced, out produced and our intellectual property is infringed, duplicated and returned to our shores by the containership load.” The Creditory System, Hari Heath

Of course he is a politician. So is McCain. They are in POLITICS which makes the politicians. Who do you want running for office, a dog catcher? This is a silly accusation because any politician will do what it takes to be elected. That is like saying, don't trust your doctor, he will use any tool he has to make you well. All politicians are politicians and you are not going to go to the polls and vote for anyone who is not a politicains. And all politicians will throw themselves into getting elected. Its called taking the job seriously.

Well we all know that Obama will rewrite history to cover the democrats asses! But the truth is that 4 of the 5 Senators were democrats and that John McCain and John Glenn were both cleared and that the other 3 were not!
But, I'm sure that all that will go out the window so that Obama can once again lied to the American people just to get their vote so that he can then take away their rights one by one!

John McCain was rebuked for bad judgement.
And I don't care if he was "cleared", he was being given paid vacations for him and his family to the bahamas by the very guy that he put pressure on the regulators for.
I call that corruption, and I'm sure that the majority of Americans would consider that corrupt as well.

And let me add that this corruption directly resulted in the American taxpayer losing 3.4 billion dollars when Lincoln collapsed.

The American middle class got screwed by John McCain's corruption.

At the heart of the Keating Five scandal was the Lincoln Savings and Loan Association, which took advantage of deregulation in the 1980s to make risky investments with its depositors' money.

The Lincoln Savings and Loan chief was Charles Keating Jr., who filled McCain's campaign coffers with more than $100,000 and hosted the McCains multiple times at his vacation home in the Bahamas.(And during the subsequent investigation, McCain revealed that he and his wife, Cindy, had not reimbursed Keating for thousands of dollars in flights on his company jet to the Bahamas. The McCains blamed each other).

Keating expected to be rewarded, and when federal regulators began looking into Lincoln's questionable lending practices and investments in the late 1980s, he turned to five senators whose coffers he had lined — Alan Cranston of California, Donald Riegle of Michigan, John Glenn of Ohio and both Arizona senators, Dennis DeConcini and McCain.

McCain intervened on behalf of Charles Keating with the federal regulators that were tasked with preventing banking fraud, and championed legislation to delay regulation of the savings and loan deregulation in the 1980s to make risky industry -- actions that allowed Keating to continue his fraud at an incredible cost to taxpayers.

When the savings and loan industry collapsed, Keating's failed company put taxpayers on the hook for $3.4 billion and more than 20,000 Americans lost their savings. but the ultimate cost of the crisis to American taxpayers reached more than $120 billion.

Lincoln's collapse, the biggest of many savings and loan failures, cost taxpayers 3.4 billion. Keating spent four years in jail, before his sentence was overturned on a technicality, and the Keating 5, as the senators came to be known, lived under an ethical cloud for years. They were slapped with ethics violations and four of the five saw an end to their senate careers. McCain’s should have ended as well, but did not.

Please watch this thirteen-minute important documentary with an interview with one of the federal banking regulators:

about other members of the Keating 5:

1. Obama accepts an endorsement from Donald Reigle (D) and posts it on his website:
http://www.barackobama.com/2008/04/19/former_...

2. Dennis Deconcini (D) also endorsed Obama and was a superdelegate for him....

3. John Glenn (D) introduced Bruce Springsteen at an Obama rally...

You connect the dots....

John Glenn campaigned for Obama in Ohio yesterday.

Did his 13 minute documentary on the "Keating 5" mention John Glenn?

No!

Why not?

Because Obama is rewriting history.

The funny thing is what McCain is trying to do is make us afraid of Obama. But the opposite is happening. the more irratitic McCain is, the more he makes terrible decisions (e.g. Palin), the more he changes his tune on a daily basis (economy strong, no wait!) and the more his temper and elitist attitude come out, the more we are afraid of McCain and will not sleep well with him in the White House.
