Survey: Three in 10 U.S. adults admit race bias

As Sen. Barack Obama opens his campaign as the first African American on a major party presidential ticket, nearly half of all Americans say race relations in the country are in bad shape and three in 10 acknowledge feelings of racial prejudice, according to a new Washington Post-ABC News poll.

Sounds like a good idea, but as an American, I just can't support it. People have freedom of speech and freedom to raise their kids as they like, even if we don't agree with them.

Are you SERIOUS? And what do you plan on doing with all these children, once you have taken them away from their parents? And it would not be just parents that are racist against African Americans, it would be any one that is racist against whites, chinese, asians, mexicans, mulatto (sp), japanese, where do you draw the line. EVERYONE has some level of racism in them, no matter WHO you are.

Taking kids away from parents that are racist only teaches the child one thing - that it is NOT okay to think for yourself, that you are not allowed to have FREE WILL. Who are you, Hitler?

This world has become too damned PC - everyone has to watch what they say, just in case they may offend someone.

I have been reading the History of the Jews of Italy and I don't see things as being so different. The Christion, Jew, Muslim, Papalcy wars...The getting of one up on the other...I don't have a problem with loving people's differeneces but I sure have problems with jerks and tyrants whatever color, race or religion...And I sure hate being mini- manipulated...

It's normal for people to be standoffish with something they don't understand.

One of the benefits of Obama's campaign and an Obama Presidency is its part in the battle against racism in America. Racism is one of the primary original sins of this nation, both in the Europeans' treatment of native Americans, and African slaves. Racism also reared its ugly head in the way Chinese and Japanese have been treated, and also Hispanics.

Evil is hard to fight, and we may never purge racism entirely from America. But Obama's arrival on the scene is an opportunity to take a big step forward fighting against recism.

In America I think people become racist because of the way African Americans act.

Its generally disrespectful, loud, rude and obnoxious.

Whites, Asians, Indians are generally quiet, respectful, law-abiding people.

Gee, and if you read the whole story instead of just the headline, you see some interesting statements. 9 of 10 whites say they'd be comfortable with the idea of a black president. But half say Obama's risky. This is your classic example of leftist media spin. Headline angle: Racism is big problem in America! Subtext: If you don't vote Obama, you're an evil racist. Story: it's not race, it's that Obama's a wild-eyed leftist with no experience to speak of. Interesting statement No. 2: 6 out of 10 blacks say race relations are poor. Could it be the constant repetition by Dems and Sharptonesque leaders that Whitey is out to get them? Especially the GOP?

It's interesting that 34% of black people admitted having a race bias, compared to 30% of white people.

I actually see this article as being encouraging...at least these people are being honest with themselves.

I don't think I've ever met someone that didn't have (at least a slight) race bias--which, to me, means that you'd treat someone differently just because of their race (for better or worse).

The real problem is people who are either racist and proud of it...or people who are racist but don't admit it to themselves.
