Former Marine decries trial in civilian court

A former Marine sergeant facing the first federal civilian prosecution of a military member accused of a war crime says there is much more at stake than his claim of innocence on charges that he killed unarmed detainees in Fallujah, Iraq.

In the view of Jose Luis Nazario Jr., U.S. troops may begin to question whether they will be prosecuted by civilians for doing what their military superiors taught them to do in battle.

Mr. Nazario has no more to fear from a civilian jury than from a court martial as long as he didn't commit pre-meditated murder. Similarly, his trial will have no effect on US troops who can perform their duties professionally and proficiently without murdering each other or civilians.

Like how many soldiers go to war and don't think of the possiblity of having to shoot someone? Why would they carry guns?

"This is an oil-driven war, and I don't think any soldier signs up to fight for oil. When you try to find the justification and you think about WMD, and you think about terrorism and things like that. All you find is lies and you have no justification, you need that justification to be able to live with yourself."

JUSTICE

The path of justice shines like a light
On any whose guilt is known by all.
There's no virtue so truly great
As when the sword of justice must fall.

Except for the selfish of earth
That, which is unjust, pleases none.
I would rather die in exile
Than be a victim on the run.

Those who pass judgment to quickly
Without hearing the other side
Never wish to be just at all
But wicked and shallow inside.

The spirits of the just are kind
For hate has not consumed their soul.
The mills of judgment grind slowly
When justice with mercy's our goal.

Great, so after you return from war and are honorably discharged some liberals from San Francisco can drag you into court and ruin your life based on he said, she said evidence. So next time some squad is in a firefight and a sergeant gives a PFC an order he will have to worry about whether or not the Michael Moore's of the country are going to burn him at the stake.

He followed orders from our Commander and Chief. Why should Nazario Jr. take the entire punishment? Shouldn't we be spreading the love?

WTF
This is not justice. This is a civilian court with opinions of Military men doing harm that region they believe should be left alone. This poem has no merit in this case.

We are doomed. Who is ever going to go battle knowing they have to watch everything they do. When you have to second think everything, you are as good as dead.

Something to think about:

Blackwater, the "civilian" contractor mercenary group thats in Iraq has "full immunity" and our military men and women doesn't!

You are right. Our men and women go into battle to protect what, our freedom in this country and yet they may not be afforded this same freedom when they come back from war. Any person going into the military these days better think twice about what they may be putting their lives on the line for. These new wars are wars for "profit" and this government doesn't even care if their own military men and women lives or dies, its all about profit! This country has come to a sad stage in its history.
