And why was the fight against the Russians who also helped the Afghan government against Taliban fight for freedom, but the fight against US presence in Afghanistan is considered terrorism?
Its really confusing...

Nine U.S. troops were killed in an attack Sunday on a base in a remote province of eastern Afghanistan, NATO said.
It's the deadliest attack on U.S. troops in Afghanistan in three years.

1 The USSR invaded Afghanistan in '79 to prevent the country from leaving Soviet control. To refresh your history, the USSR was a dark, evil empire that openly stated they wanted communism to take over the world. The USA along with NATO, is in Afghanistan because the Taliban allowed Al-Quada to orchestrate a major attack against the USA on 9-11. NATO has no desire whatsoever to take over Afghanistan. Where do you get your news, the BBC? The USA is a nation of great people with tolerance for all religions. Only a brainwashed fool would equate the old USSR with the USA. |

1 During the Afganistan war with the Soviets there were at least 15 Muhajean groups or Afgan resistence groups from different Factions , tribes etc. They worked semi collectively and were aided by the CIA, all equally. Of this group to come along and insert himself was Bin Laden. His group was small but as well received some aid. After the Soviet withdraw, the most powerful group was the Northern alliance. The Taliban were growing in strength as the US took thier eye off the ball in Afganistan, relishing perhaps the collapse of the Soviet Union coming about in 1989. Bin Laden killed the leader of the Northern alliance and set up Taliban rule through ruthlessness. So to think of all those Muhajean fighters and factions being only the Taliban is erroneous. Or that the US assisted only Bin Laden and his entry onto the field of activity. A late comer at that. Now , to question his arrival and how he came to be there, might be a better trail. |

1 Yes sure... USSR were all killers, US is a candy bringer... Sure. Lets review the facts about USSR intervention: In order to bolster the Parcham faction , the Soviet Union—citing the 1978 Treaty of Friendship, Cooperation and Good Neighborliness that had been signed between the two countries—intervened on December 24, 1979. Over 100,000 Soviet troops took part in the invasion backed by another 100,000 plus and by members of the Parcham faction. Amin was killed and replaced by Babrak Karmal. |

1 Alliances are fluid by nature. The USA and the USSR were allies in WWII in 1945 and enemies in 1946. Yes, the USA helped the Taliban defeat the Soviet invasion because we shared a common enemy. Are you under the impression that allegiances should never change? |

1 Not any more then any other group resisting Soviet Occupation. No. And in fact due to thier numerical inferiority, less then the others. But then USA left. It became a free for all for the various factions to rise up and control Afganistan. The most ruthless, was the Taliban using Bin Laden money. |

2 2) Afghanistan is where the war is. This is where we should have focused our efforts, not Iraq. We must undo the bungling of the last 5 1/2 years. Thank God we'll have a new Commander In Chief in 6 months. |

Afghanistan has one of the world’s largest oil and natural gas preserves. And, they also have some the world’s largest opium poppy fields, creating enormous wealth for those in control. Both the US and Russia wanted to control Afghanistan. And you are correct, for many years the US did fund and support the Taliban. Our nation's corporate and elected leaders brought the Taliban to Texas where they were wined and dined in an effort to secure a contract for UNOCAL to construct a natural gas pipeline. http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/west_asia/37... But those ungrateful Taliban refused to play along to get along. Many believe that's the reason that we chose to take the fight to Afghanistan after 9/11 even though no Afghans were responsible for 9/11 attack. After 9/11 our mission was clear; we stayed in Afghanistan long enough to installed our own front man (in 2004) as the President of Afghanistan, Hamid Karzai, a former executive of UNOCAL. Please review: The FEBRUARY 12, 1998, HEARING BEFORE THE SUBCOMMITTEE ON ASIA AND THE PACIFIC OF THE COMMITTEE ON INTERNATIONAL RELATIONS HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES Pay particular attention to pages 30 to 45 – it’s a great read…. http://commdocs.house.gov/committees/intlrel/... |
