Employees unionize to PROTECT themselves from corporate greed.

In my family, my great grandfather worked for the railroad. He joined the union...he got a five-day week, and a paid vacation every year. I come from a union family.

There are plenty of union stories about corporate greed..Ever hear of the Triangle Shirt Factory fire and the start of the International Ladies' Garment Workers' Union?

What union wasn't started because of Corporate abuse?

Even when a union endorses a candidate, it's the workers who vote individually...not all vote for the same candidate.

I don't understand this reply...however:

Do you “believe” the Founding Fathers Would Ever Approve of “Persons Status for Corporations”?

Corporations don’t have to register. If you are a male, ages 18 through 25 and living in the U.S., then you must register with Selective Service. It’s the law. According to law, a man must register with Selective Service within 30 days of his 18th birthday…(what if there were an emergency draft?) Can you draft a corporation?

No corporation has ever given it's life for it's country, although some have reaped obscene profits from REAL people getting together and killing one another

Unlike corporations, people cannot be owned...

Unlike people, corporations cannot be incarcerated

Unlike Corporations, people cannot be bought and sold

A corporation can't make a decision on it's own. It's a piece of paper. The people behind the corporation are the ones responsible for what it does. And the people should act as individuals.

Corporations can dissolve into other corporations and still stay alive.

Corporations are inanimate creations manipulated by outside voices.

Corporations can be in many places at once.

Corporations can live forever.

Corporations can’t personally register to vote.

Corporations don’t need clean air to breathe.

Corporations don’t need clean water to drink.

Corporations don’t need to eat food to live.

Corporations have no form of consciousness on their own.

Corporations ARE NOT people....

Ancient history. I don't dispute Unions were needed however my own experience with union workers (not all)in general drives costs up. The sizeable percentage of union members who don't vote Democrat still have their dues monies used to support Democrats. Fair? If history has shown anything its Union Leadership is AS CORRUPT asany Corporate types.

A Corp is a legal entity. It has no power and is inoperable without the people who own and run it. I operated as a sole proprietorship (individual) providing products and services to a sizeable development corp. When they folded I was holding the bag for tens of thousands of dollars in merchandise that I was personally responsible for covering. It took me 6 years to pay it off. I incorporated afterward.Corps and Unions donating to politicians are indistinguishable to me.Each are special interest groups attempting to buy influence.

You are right, corporations are not people, they are associations of people, just like labor unions, and both have the right to participate in the political process.

Highly unlikely, as this should never go to trial. Douchebag Corey has presented no evidence to prove her charge of second degree murder. We have GZ's story that the thug Martin attacked him, Corey and your side have presented no evidence to disprove GZ's version of the events.
Or have you unearthed some since yesterday?
Didn't Zimmie claim Tray bashed his head against concrete for a full minute? Do you think you'd be "alive" if anyone did that to you? A full minute?

Unless you show me otherwise, I'll say the south had the right to secede from the union as well. Do you know anything about the founding of this country? It was a voluntary association of the various states and they were all leery of too much federal power. Rightfully so.
Got this in an email, I hope they do it, f Washington DC and the horse they rode in on.
----------
Please note that Texas is the only state with a legal right to secede from the Union .(Reference the Texas-American Annexation Treaty of 1848.)
We Texans love y'all, but we'll probably have to take action if Barack Obama wins the election. We'll miss you too.
Here is what can happen:
1: Barack Hussein Obama is President of the United States, and Texas secedes from the Union in summer of 2013.
2: George W. Bush will become the President of the Republic of Texas . You might not think that he talks too pretty, but we haven't had another terrorist attack, and the economy was fine until the effects of the Democrats lowering the qualifications for home loans came to roost.
Sounds good to me......

Texas:
The federal government provides financial energy subsidies through tax incentives; direct spending for government services; the assumption of certain types of liability or risk by the federal government; government ownership of energy production; access to resources on federal lands and tariffs (Exhibit 28-2).
Exhibit 28-2
Exhibit 28-2

View Exhibit 28-2: Estimated Percent of Total Federal Subsidies by Type in 2006, in Table Format.

The federal government offers energy producers and purchasers tax incentives, such as credits, deductions, exemptions and allowances. For example, purchasers of clean-fuel burning vehicles may receive a federal income tax credit.

The federal government provides grants and loans to encourage the development and purchase of certain energy systems, such as the purchase of renewable energy systems. Grants and loans are two examples of direct federal spending. Direct spending (also called direct expenditure) is a term used by previous studies of energy subsidies to describe federal programs through which the federal government provides direct financial benefits to energy producers or consumers.

How would Corps. being people have impacted your business?

Unions are made up of INDIVIDUAL CITIZENS, paying union dues...How is that the same as corporations?

However, to be fair, there's so much written about this, I will do more research on the subject.

Too bad Obama got stuck with the bill.
"Osama bin Forgotten" the supposed reason for war was probably really about feeding the "military industrial complex" and politics...Maybe Cheney's Halliburton had something to do with it.
Why do you start each comment with a lie? Unlike Obama, Bush got approval and funding from congress, and even after Pelosi took over, he still got money from congress. Don't show anymore stupidity than you have to my little comedy central wannabe.

Because the individuals don't get to say where their dues go or to whom. They are disinfranchised by their union bosses.

Ya know...this whole "communism" schtick that you guys keep spouting seems really bizarre to me...I'm guessin' you're way past 65yrs old because communism is considered a failed form of government...although I think is was Karl Marx who said capitalism will eat itself up, and that may be true...we'll see. I know of no one who even says the word "communism"....it's a theory only in history books..and on Topix..

Intellesting...velly, velly, intellesting...

FYI ..a classless society can NEVER exist...even those countries that started out calling themselves "Communist" are more like fascist dictatorships.

My question was for "Freebird USA"
What do you know of the business he had?
He doesn't need a "lousy" lawyer...he does fine on his own. Of course, if you were a "good" lawyer like I got on Topix, that would be another story.

Since the 1970s union membership has dropped from 30% to less than 12%. Of that 12% the majority of union workers are now *public* employees.

So you could say the attack on public employee unions is by corporate backed politicians.

As it stands now, the unions vs corporations is a David vs Goliath fight. They are not equivalent, and certainly, the corporations now can give secretly, so we'll never know who's doing what. And they like it that way....That's Corporatocracy!

Unions are people, Corporations are NOT!

You don't think unions are still needed?

According to the Christian Science Monitor, this is the story of what happened to the workers in one company when the Romney/Bain machine "came to town":

The new owner, American Pad & Paper, owned in turn by [Mitt Romney's] Bain Capital, told all 258 union workers they were fired, in a cost-cutting move.

Security guards hustled them out of the building. They would be able to reapply for their jobs, at lesser wages and benefits, but not all would be rehired.

Outsourcing jobs to places where people don't have a say so they can't demand good wages, firing people and making them reapply for their jobs but at half the pay, gutting people's benefits, stripping companies, closing factories, pocketing pension money. That's "Locust" capitalism. That's Mitt Romney's view of how to make money. Unions are in the way.

No wonder you guys need your guns to feel safe....You want to turn the U.S. into a third world country with two classes...the Rich living in little Fortresses and the Poor begging in the streets? Is that where all this is going? Tell me...how do you envision the future of America under Romney?
