Paulson says financial bailout not intended as stimulus package
Rep. Paul Kanjorski, D-Pa., told Treasury Secretary Henry Paulson there is a "crisis of confidence" across the United States that demands action.
During a hearing of the U.S. House of Representatives Committee on Financial Services, Kanjorski compared Paulson's statements that the financial situation had been stabilized sounded a lot like Great Depression-era statements by President Herbert Hoover.

Retired Generals, Admirals want repeal of "Don't Ask, Don't Tell"
The statement claims homosexuals should be allowed to serve openly.
The 15 year policy on homosexuals in the military, known as "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" is being criticized by more than 100 retired generals and admirals.
The high ranking veterans are recommending the repeal of the law which states that openly gay personnel cannot serve in the military, however people cannot be asked about their sexual preference.

Texas has become a major hub for human trafficking, state officials said yesterday while proposing a more aggressive response to what a senior government official described as "modern-day slavery".
Nearly 20% of human-trafficking victims found nationwide have been in Texas, according to a report released by the attorney general, Greg Abbott. The 57-page report, mandated by the legislature in 2007, also identifies Interstate 10 as a major route through Texas for human-trafficking rings.
