Interesting comment since it's democrats that like to raise taxes, including the middle class. Stop drinking the liberal cool aid. Under Bush the middle class pays less taxes than under Clinton.

lol lassie faire politics use to be equated with the right wing republicans - after Bush though - its a whole other story - I have never seen such intrusion inot the lives of people as this administration has accomplished. All in the name of national security - screw the constitution . People need tobe very careful of the way we allow our govt to proceed in its war on terrorists - to allow the degradation of our constitution in the name of security is for the terrorists to have won far beyond your wildest dreams and perhaps even byond theirs
Omigosh, thank you, thank you!!!! Someone else who actually sees how fascist our country is becoming. Never in my lifetime (and I'm 50) have I felt such oppression and seen such intrusion from the government. If this is conservative leadership, I don't want it!!! It's kind of scary.

I totally agree with you! It's too bad other Americans can't see how our own government is dividing us and keeping us fighting amongst each other. The government know if they divide us, then they can conquer us.
We are all in this country together and if my neighbor has problems with their home, it impacts my home.
Yes but at the same time if you bail out your neighbor. Wouldn't it be like the slippery slope welfare has become?

What if we have to constantly bail these people out over and over.

If you haven't noticed but every time we try these things they fail miserably.

I say they got themselves into this its their responsiblity to get themselves out.

Anyway I just bought a 50" plasma and now I can't afford my house because gas has gone up so much. Anyone wanna give me some money? I'm in need.

The Government can’t come along and bail out everyone that makes a mistake, especially people that should have never been able to purchase a home to begin with. The American Tax payer cannot afford to bail out everyone that cannot manage there finances.
You mean "their finances"? By that logic, then we shouldn't have bailed out the airlines after 9/11. Oh, I see. Only corporate America deserves assistance from the Gov. Brilliant.

We have had 19 straight months of foreclosures. Some 2 million Americans have lost their homes.
Some of those homes are on my block, some are on yours. Over time, abandoned real estate brings down the value of all homes and brings a host of vermin to the surrounding homes. When a crisis effects this many Americans, a helping hand isn't a crime. It's the 'Christian' thing to do. It's the American thing to do. No one is proposing welfare for these people. Too bad the American Dream only applies to you. I hope you are never down on your luck and encounter someone as callous as yourself. Karma dictates that you will, though.

Why is common sense so uncommon among neocons?

AMERICA FIRST!!! AMERICANS FIRST!!! That's where our money needs to be. While our tax dollars are being shipped to Iraq to rebuild them, wealthy American investors are investing in growing companies in THAT country and making money hand over fist. In the meantime, our people losing their homes and struggling to get by.
That's OUR money the government takes out of OUR paychecks. It should go to US.
I think you misconstrue what he said.

Truthfully I don't see how these people who applied for the loans were able to get in over their heads like this because you do the math if you cannot afford a house note you should not try and buy. Also the umbrella for those who did have jobs and lost that is different. The real question is how were all of these people approved for loans and now cannot pay?

How stupid can some of you be? Blaming Bush for not standing up for the middle class americans? Have any if you idiots actually read the bill and know what all it includes? Probably not, just the same old ignorant comments that continue to split this country down the middle.

The government is worried about bailing out the financial institutions. If the bill has anything to do with the working middle class americans, it is to TAKE TAX PAYERS MONEY AND GIVE IT TO FINANCIAL INSTITUTIONS AND THOSE WHO TOOK OUT THESE BAD LOANS TO BEGIN WITH. I'm sorry, but I work hard for my money and I don't pay taxes to bail out these idiots who didn't read their load paperwork. When you parents told you that if something is too good to be true, it's probably false, these loans were a prime example. We've got to be the dumbest nation in the world. Wake up people!

I SHOULD NOT HAVE TO PAY FOR OTHER PEOPLE'S MISTAKES! How does Congress have the right to take the money that I paid in taxes and bail out these million dollar lending corporations.

Wake up people and educate yourselves in these bills before you start bashing people.

The government bailing out irresponsible lenders. The government bailing out irresponsible mortgage holders. Next it will be the government bailing out auto loans and then credit cards. Doesn't anyone in this country take responsibility for their actions anymore? I realize that a lot of people were scammed but the majority of the people losing their homes couldn't afford them in the first place. It isn't the governments job to bail out irresponsible lenders or borrowers. No one bailed me out when I bought my home. What happened to responsibility in this country?

why am i not surprised that bush will veto another bill that will benefit countless numbers of hard working families just because their middle class.
who will represent the majority of citizens which are middle to lower class. at least it's not just about your ethnicity or gender. i see more white families moving into the inner cities of los angeles now. so, it's not all bad. they are all living together as one. one love and one nation under god. still support our troops like my brother. and my father (korea and vietnam vet) who was retired from service and honored at his funeral with the 21 gun salute.
I'm only for helping the families that have lost jobs and can't pay their mortgage payments after having paid for many years..
I'm not in favor of helping people that bought their home during the real estate boom of the past 5 years. I'm talking about the big fancy house and the 5 grand a month mortgage payment.
I'm talking about the investors that bought to flip homes or as rental property and now have vacant homes sitting around and can't pay the mortage.
Why should taxpayers have to pay for their BIG spending?

DID YOU VOTE FOR TORTURE,$4/GALLON GAS, TORTURE AND "BUTT PYAMIDS?"

Remember the Bush/McCain-style promises of creating jobs and helping the economy? How’s that working out right now for YOUR family?

There are 900,000 HOMES in American are IN FORECLOSURE RIGHT NOW.

This gigantic mortgage mess is happening because of two things:

1. Bush/McCain-style Republicans deregulated the home loan industry to allow all kinds of “funny money” loans, contributing to the problem of 900,000 FORECLOSURES (so far).

2. Republicans have spent about $500 BILLION in Iraq and Afghanistan, ruining the U.S. economy.

Overall, the Bush/McCain-style Republicans aren’t doing so well lately. What could be wrong? Maybe...

*$4.07+ for gasoline and $2.59 for eggs
* Giving our troops tanks without much armor...
* IRAQ PRISON TORTURE AND, AMAZING BUT TRUE: NAKED BUTT PYRAMIDS!
* Providing substandard treatment in VA hospitals...
* Canceling parts of the Constitution (w/ email spying and phone taps). NIXON would be proud.
* Making the U.S. a country that’s known for SECRET PRISONS (and then lying about it).
* Doing NEARLY NOTHING ABOUT ILLEGAL IMMIGRATION because they
want their rich fat-cat contributors to have plenty of cheap labor available.

Also, we can do without Bush/McCain-style fear-mongering that’s being pedaled as “experience” and failed war-mongering policies that have made Iran stronger.

Oh, and they’re the party that preaches to us about their “Family Values.” Then Republicans were caught, again and again, sending sexually-explicit emails to underage congressional pages, having sex in airport bathrooms, etc., etc., etc.

PEOPLE HAVE HAD ENOUGH OF DO-NOTHING REPUBLICANS! IF YOU SENT THEM MONEY BUT DIDN’T VOTE FOR NAKED BUTT PYRAMIDS, MAYBE YOU SHOULD CALL AND ASK FOR YOUR MONEY BACK!

My daughter and husband both work. They have six children between them. They were talked into an "interest only loan" by the bank. They paid their mortgage faithfully knowing in a few years they can refinance without penalty. Now that it is time to refinance their property value dropped so low that they can't find a bank to refinance. Now they and their six children are losing their home. Was that stupid and irresponsible of them to trust a lender. Did they foresee property values dropping when they got their loan. NO. I am sure there are many people doing the best they can to make ends meet. It is a shame that loan companies pushed people into loans that carried such a high risk. Helping these families out seems to me to be a necessary thing to help preserve our communities as a whole.
Who keeps the rich rich? The middle class. Perhaps the Republican's are shooting themselves in the foot by not helping out the middle class.
Heaven forbid Bush doing anything that might help our country stay afloat. If you are looking for stupid take a close look at his face.
Your daughter got children by your husband?

Only kidding, I know what you meant.
Truth is, they were slipped through the grease. They (and all of us) must remember that the beat banker is Mr. Potter from "It's A Wonderful Life" because what you see is what you get.

Any lender will do or say almost anything he can get away with to close a loan.
Your children should have had a lawyer who watched out for his clients.

By taking a balloon loan, they were taking a risk that America would go along as she had been going.
It is George Bush and his lying neo-conservatives who deliberately queered the economy, and are now screwing your children into the ground; while sneering self-rightiously "you should have known better."

Technically, they are right, but who could have expected the President of the United States and a Republican Congress to kill the American dream?
