Rule_Of_Law wrote: I am having trouble locating the clause in the US Constitution that authorizes the federal government control over this. I know many will point out that the Environmental Protection Agency has jurisdiction. The only problem is that the EPA claims authority under the Interstate Commerce Clause of the Constitution. I can't make the connection between this watershed area and commerce with other states. That leaves any protection of this area solely under the jurisdiction of the state of Connecticut unless the Federal Government can find another legitimate way. That is of course if you believe that the Constitution is something more the just a piece of paper. …a long habit of not thinking a thing wrong, gives it a superficial appearance of being right, and raises at first a formidable outcry in defense of custom. -Thomas Paine Yes, and we are all aware of Bush's opinion of the Constitution.

Bill expansion bill you're threatening to veto, have a place to go a park their vans when they come back from giving Iraq freedom. Nice job! As a vet of numerous engagements... the current offering that Pres Bush is planning on vetoing is exactly what he should do. If he doesn't he will then be responsible for creating another segment of our population with their hand out...much like the current leftist dumocrats. There is nothing wrong with earning what you get. Four years and a free education is overkill. As for the river. Nice job Mr. Bush.

Burlington Bill wrote: <quoted text> Different river. The "Holy Grail" for The Nature Conservancy is money, money, money, and, did I mention money? Look at what has been going on at the CT HQ over the past several years as the working staff is whittled down and the philanthropy department grows and grows. They export almost all of what they fundraise in Connecticut to their national headquarters. Very little is used in CT. They have a few good people left, but the chapter leadership is ruthlessly greedy and neglectful. Want to conserve Connecticut? Give to your local conservation organization, watershed group, or land trust. Otherwise, you might as well drive down I-91 and chuck your money out of the window. Wow, thanks for the information. I'm very particular about to which organizations I donate.

I thought the Democrats said Bush doesn't care about the environment??? Don't tell me they were overy critical of a Republican! You know your rivers, Sir. It is referred to as the Eight Mile River, even though it's part of the Quinnipiac.(Wikipedia) The 2008 Angler's Guide has a fish advisory for the "Eight Mile River", saying do not eat anything at all from there. PCB's. As for my President, "God Bless America andPresident Bush". And "screw" the dumocrats.

Great News. Keep it out of the hands of greedy developers. Incentives should be given to folks who redevelop exsisiting property. A chimp could develop raw land.

I agree with the previous posting from RangerG. I served as an airborne engineer for 20 years (voluntered twice -once for the Army and once to go airborne) and I fought in 2 wars. I'm proud to have served my country and I reap some good benefits. I support all troops -current and Vets, but stop the whining and the entitlement mentality. Do your duty and then get on with your life. Way to go with the river - I remember visiting my relatives in New Haven and taking an ill advised walk near the Q-river - I literally puked my guts up!

The poster ranting about TNC, ironically after an article about a local success, is correct about at least one thing. Giving to your local land trust WILL keep the conservation money in your town. Most of them in CT are run entirely by volunteers. Check out your local one and you might be surprised at the work they have accomplished.

Wonder who the special interests we're supporting on this one? Better yet? I suspect that there's a lot of special friends benefiting from the 'preservation'(read: inflate my property value as a function of protected status)
