Ariz. migrant case could lead to sweeping changes

Full story: SavannahNow

The United States could see an official about-face in the coming months in how it confronts illegal immigration if the Supreme Court follows through on its suggestion that it would let local police enforce the most controversial part of Arizona's immigration law.

"Immigrant rights advocates, who believed the courts would reject attempts by states to grab more law enforcement power, also were surprised and said a validation of the law by the Supreme Court would frighten immigrants further and cause Latinos who are here legally to be asked about their immigration status."
Why is it always about Latinos? I know many legal Asian and European immigrants and visitors who can and have been questioned about their status especially when flying. Of course unlike most non-citizen Latinos they have no worries because they are legal, honest and carry their documents as required by federal law.

Yes, it could. That was the intent of the laws.

Overburdened taxpayers, who bear the brunt of the illegal aliens' social costs, would welcome the sweeping changes.

The U.S. Supreme Court obviously sees Obozo and his administration for what it is -- do nothings.

Obozo is ignoring federal law in favor of his "policy", which is hilarious, as someone's "policy" does not negate the law. Obozo himself is going against federal statutes, yet sues states who mirror federal statutes and ignore states who blatantly defy federal statutes (i.e., sanctuary cities).

I am anxious to see the difference it would make after the high court upheld SB1070 and congress cuts border security spending.

'If' the S.C. upholds SB1070, I doubt the Repubs. in the House would cut border security spending.

If the SC nullifies the AZ law i hope the state demands they show where the constitution gives them the power to do such. As Alito said, the states are supposed to be sovereign.

The justices have to issue an opinion and there is no way they can issue an opinion supporting the government without nulifying many other state laws that overlap federal law. Most obvious are gun control and drug laws.

Daily Horoscope for May 25

Cancer

Today's Full Moon will have a powerful impact on your health during the next few months. Maybe this is the spur you need to inspire you to take better care of yourself, such as improving your diet, getting more exercise or finally consulting the doctor about something that's worrying you. It will also be the end of a chapter connected with your work, but don't fret because this ending will lead on to a new beginning.
