I fully agree, I have been annoyed by the assumption that people in small towns are morally superior to those that live in suburbs or cities. I have lived in both and really find both have their good and bad people and activities.
Thank you for finally pointing this out!
The funny thing the post listed here arguing for/against Palin is the assumption that Palin is actually saying small town people are morally superior, she's simply being complimentary. The nonsense that she is is a LIE by Steve Chapman. No where in his article does he quote her touting moral superiority of small towns. This article is a logical fallacy or more accurately PROPAGANDA!! And were all arguing about something that wasn't stated at all! AREN'T WE BRILLIANT!!

Well, that was worth your time and energy.
Palin is great comedy and that's all. I'd love to see her college transcripts.. its surprising she graduated at all. The only people that could not name something that they regularly read are people who do not read. I don't mean can't read, because its clear she can read from the teleprompter, but with 5 kids and a busy work day, I can't imagine she ever has time to read, much less keep up with what's going on in the rest of the world.

Unless she's planning on having her teenage daughter raise her other children, she can't do both jobs and expect to do either of them well.

Steve, I think you're being a bit oversensitive in Ms. Palin's 'small town' comments. Let's face it, she's trying to identify herself more with where she's from, with people she knows, and playing against what many view as the big city, elitist mentality.
Additionally, you've taken quite a leap in using her simple quote about small town life and spinning it into an essay about drugs and crime in metro vs rural areas.
I don't think Ms. Palin ever said that city dwellers are worse than rural folks. You did. That was your leap, not hers, and therefore, I think your article was really a cheap shot at her.
Thankyou!!!! Steve's column is much snottier and more "full of himself" than anything Palin ever said. I know media has a very high opinion of themselves, but often your columns are just childish and terribly inaccurate!

For the past two months, the liberal press has done everything in its' power to attempt to destroy this woman. She is a breath of fresh air, especially compared to Barack Hussein Obama, the supporter of Todd Stroeger and higher taxes. And yes, big city people are extremely condescending of people not from the big city. Steve Chapman and the Chicago Libune are proof of this.

Well then, you should do the same, stay home and raise you own kids! Then let's see what happens?

Let's pretend your description of Sarah Palin bears remote resemblance to reality. Even so, other than being governor of the "largest" state, that description fits quite a few people I know. What distinguishes Palin from any average Joe or Jane? Or are you satisfied with just any average Joe or Jane running this country?
As far as running the "largest" state, well, if bears, wolves, moose or square miles could vote, you might be right (in which case I doubt Palin would be governor of Alaska - I don't think her approval rating among wildlife is terribly high). But in fact, by population, which is the important measure of size, Alaska is smaller than Lake County, Illinois. So are you agreeing that the commissioner of Lake County is qualified to be VP?

come on people, face the facts. the woman is as incompetent as they come. I wont even go into the thousands of other reasons it is downright dangerous for a woman/person like Sarah Palin to be a heart beat away from being president. Simply stated, she is a hood ornament on the truck that America is about to be thrown under!

But...she makes it SO easy! She's as dumb as bricks. Let's face it, if she were male she'd have been run out of this election / off of the ticket within days of her being 'in' it to begin with. But, as a woman, it's been a tightrope to walk that would otherwise have been a canon to use to shoot her back to Alaska {or Idaho}. Just like the main export of her home state [Idaho], this spuds for you. Maybe if we stick a couple of electrodes in her at least we could get some electricity out of her, otherwise she's only good for pop'n out babies [all be the last one being defective and another made the 'choice' to get knocked up while an un-wed teenager - like mother like daughter] and to spout mindless religion. No education, training or experience to speak of as qualifications for the executive branch [and it IS the executive branch - no matter what Dick{'em} Cheney says] and, yet - she's on the ticket. Well, it's time to give this Barbie wannabe a new ticket - a ticket back to podunk'sville where she'd be in her element. America's not in the dark-ages - yet, but, give the McCain/Palin ticket a punch and we'll be headed directly forward into the past - where darkness ruled the earth. Of course, Mz. Palin's timelines will be rather skewed, since she believes {'knows'} that fossils are no more than 6,000 years old - from about the time of her running mate. Yee haw!
you are a real live piece of trash your going to talk down on a woman for having a baby with ds that is as low as it gets if you cant find nothing else to attic a person on but their family then keep your ignorant mouth shut funny you don't see the right wing hate mongers talking like that but you sure see all the left wing peace wanting i love everybody nuts saying you Hippocrates doing it

Having "enjoyed" a small-town up-brining, let me suggest to City dwellers that a McCain/Oalin adminstration would be like a year around Thanksgiving dinner...First, you have the cantankeros, rich crazy Uncle, who never mises an opportunity to tell the same war story(he was the hero). Then you have your busy-body Sister-in-Law Screeching about how you should live YOUR life, according to her plan(funny how that's God plan for you, according to her) Yeah, sure...clearly a Superior Culture. lol

I lived in a small town in northern Michigan for 9 years. While it is a beautiful place (my family and I still love it there), it's nearly impossible to make a living in rural America unless your job allows you to telecommute heavily.
Small towns have many drawbacks. One being that it's very difficult to have an opinion that differs from the majority. On ANYthing.
Living in Seymour, you have access to better jobs in the Indy area, I assume. I agree, none of my family lives in the small Illinois town where my mother lives. It's simple -- career options are extremely limited. Small towns are fighting a fierce and often losing battle to hold onto their young people, especially the better educated ones. Look at Money magazine's laughable list of "best small towns" which includes Naperville. The biggest chunk of the US population lives in the burbs but it's a lot tougher to romanticize Naperville, Lombard and Flossmoor than the Smalltown USA. Too close to the evil big city. And I have lived in rural areas, small towns, suburbs and large cities.

Why don't all of you "supposedly intelligent" columnists, journalists, and television anchors quit hiding behind your words and throw in the towel. Something like: Okay Barrack, we can't take it anymore, you are our one and only love and we all want you so badly. Do all of you really think the American public is that stupid and can't read the favoritism between your lines? There is one major reason which should sway every true red-blooded American voter. Barrack Obama and his wife think this country owes them something while John McCain would give his life for this country.

I love how all of these Obama worshippers continue to pound the same drum that Sarah Palin has no experience. Since when is a "community organizer" considered more experienced than a Governor? Oh that's right, never.

What the hel! is a community organizer anyways? Oh that's right, it's a person who preys on the vulnerable living in poor urban neighborhoods, takes whatever money those poor folks have, and lines their pockets with it. Just like Jesse Jackson.
