The only thing faulty here Steve is your perspective. While I have lived my whole life in Chicagoland, I find it refreshing to visit small town America. Besides the low crime rates, people tend to be much more friendly and down to earth. Reading the snobbery expressed by the city folks here reminds me of how nice it is to travel to the country and smell the fresh air and actually be able to see the stars at night. Your arrogant column just shows your ignorance. Fool.

Steve, regarding your first sentence -- that is exactly what Obama did in his "clinging to guns and religion" crack at his SF fundraiser earlier this year.

Tribune column number 3,285 against Sarah Palin. Isn't there ANYTHING about this woman that Mr. Chapman, Mr. Silva, Mr. Zorn, Ms. Trice, or all the others in the Trib writing stable find to be positive. Not enough for an American citizen to be herself, to be intelligent, to be accomplished, to be a positive family person, to run the largest state in the nation, and to be charming to boot. Come on Tribune, give the anti-Palin stuff a break. You only damage your own reputation of journalistic integrity.

As a matter of fact, this cliche about small town America is as lame as all the other cliches the right wing whack jobs like to hurl. Boo-hoo-hoo. Sorry you didn't get your way? Tougj. I think Sarah needs to get a grip on life elsewhere than a place where the Salmon out-number the people by 100 to 1. She is an idiot and I will not vote for McCain because his first major decision was to pick a VP and he insulted us by picking a "skirt" Sorry but its the truth and it will cost him the office of President for it.

Chicago Tribune? You wouldn't be in the BO Tank would you? Your circular logic of making a small town person seem that htey are the elites is hilarious. When has the the population of the larger cities ever cared what the small town folks say. I just hope tha Ms. Palin doesn't come-up with some stupid statement like FDR was on TV in 1929 when the Great Dpression hit. Boy you BO cheer leaders will have a job for life.(Only I think the readers will eventually tire of the same old "Our guy is the better candidate".

Steve, Sarah Palin didn't say rural folks were better, she just defended small towns and her right to be where she is. You are very prejudiced and biased.

Strange logic Steve! Your assuming the outcome here of her thoughts, which means your an ...___. The TRUTH(SCARY) is she was being complimentary to small town people and no where in your rant is a quote by Palin putting down big cities.

IRONICALLY ENOUGH ...you end up putting down small towns in your column. KEEP UP THE PROPAGANDA ATTACKS! Big Brother loves you!

Genius, there are 100-some thousand soldiers in Iraq and more than 3 million people in Chicago proper. I won't do the math for you, except to point out that 3 million is quite a bit more than 100,000. Typical right wing moron.

True, but is Chicago a war zone? I mean come on the city should be embarrassed by the killing spree. Don't defend it, that's like defending a senator having relations with a 17year ol boy and naming a highway after him ... of course liberals from Mass. did that!

Hmm, I don't recall Sarah Palin saying anyone was "worse" than anyone. She simply cited that many wonderful people do live in small towns and stated that she is proud to be from one. It takes two to take offense, and it seems that you're doing the work of two men.

Furthermore, it was funny to see you mention sexual responsibility as a criteria by mentioning "births", praising New Jersey and California (the porn capital of America). Those states have some of the highest -abortion- rates, the greatest measure of sexual irresponsibility. At least the "birth" parents did take responsibility.

But assuming Sarah Palin is being insulting by saying that small towns are an important part of the American community is, in and of itself, insulting. You not only reach to create offense that was never intended, but assume that big-city folks should be offended just because she isn't ashamed of who she is.
