I would guess that at least 90% of black Americans are against equality for gay and lesbian Americans, as evidenced by all the screaming you hear when we draw parallels between the civil rights struggles of black Americans and the civil rights struggles of gay & lesbain Americans.

There is no doubt that African-Americans and Hispanic-Americans have no use for gays,lebians,gay marriage or any other weirdos.

OK idiot, for a LONG time, many black people have vociferously objected when gay and lesbian Americans compare our struggle for civil rights, and equal protection of the laws, to that of black Americans struggle for the same thing. Many black people get extremely angry and vocal about this comparison and swear that there are no parallels whatsoever. I mean some of them REALLY HATE when gay and lesbian Americans make this comparison. And because of that a large percentage of black Americans are very vocally opposed to equal rights for gay and lesbian Americans.

Why shouldn't a political group recruit allies and let them speak?

Democrats became a majority party by having segregationists and the solid south in bed with Northern Liberals, Blacks and Trade Uniionists.

Can't black people who oppose gay so called marriage speak out and be recruited to speak out?

Especially when the self called "human rights" groups are running around having white people say that this is the same as the civil rights struggle?

It is perfectly fair for their opposition to recruit blacks who agree with them to say "NO it is NOT the same".

As a black gay Canadian male this "Gays vs. Blacks" is ticking me off.

LGBT People of Color are largely being ignored either because:
- they are a margianalized group and/or
- apathy, they are not shouting loud enough to be heard or they simply don't care.

We just hear LGBT Activists (often not of color) speaking for gay rights, and the church leaders of color who are speaking against equality.

The result is this perception that LGBT People of color (blacks namely) don't exist and there is a conflict with being gay and black.

This perceived "conflict" with being gay, black and religious is a clever device used to limit and prevent LGBT people of color from being happy, mobilizing and reaching their full potential as citizens; they're too busy fighting these internalised conflicts to do anything else for the wider LGBT community.

This needs to change.

Gay people don't need civil rights they need counciling. It is a sickness that needs to be addressed for what it is. Normal people who are working taking care of their kids and leading a typically hectic life haven't really paid attention to the gay community and their agenda to gain acceptance and rights for a perverse behavior. Can't believe this is even an issue!!!

That was not the point of the post and this thread.

However I am opposed to so called equal rights for utterly unequal situations.

There is NO reason for so called gay marriage.

There is no religious reason in the western world (especially for any country founded on Judeo Christian principles) for Jews, Christians,or Moslems to raise an "ABOMINATION" to a Sacrament.

In terms of the state as opposed to the church there is also NO REASON for so called gay marriage.

The issues gays claim to have with hospital visits and other such issues can easily be handled with the appropriate paperwork.

The reason I as a taxpayer allow the state to impose upon me to pay the costs to enforce marriage laws is because Marriage is a relationship of unequals where the vulnerable wife and the even more vulnerable children that are the incarnation of "two flesh becoming one" need protection to prevent the wayward man from shirking his responsibilities. Even though women are less vulnerable now than in the past economically at least, the rule still holds and marriage protects her and the children.

Gays are biologically equal. There is NO inherent inequality that needs protection. There are also no naturally occurring children. Thus there is no need for this state provided and paid for protection.

Marriage was not created for gays and they are trying to usurp it by bad analogy. It does not fool me.

I think they are greedy for tax benefits and to force employers to pay health insurance for their love buddies.

I also think that they are incredibly foolish to allow the state to define their relationship via a bad analogy when they are free without state interference to create their own unique relationship.

Gay marriage will be a divorce lawyers full employment act and there will be much gnashing of teeth by winner gays when they want to unload a loser gay and then are taken to court to pay alimony.
