Well balanced report. Its an amusing aside that classicism has to beg to be taken seriously. Most classical buildings that Americans know were substantially build in the 20th century, and they remain well regarded by non-architects. Few architects are capable of even an "easy answer" like Beebe's; most attempts at classicism by architects trained as modernists are ungainly misquotes of the classical language. Its an uncomfortable fact that the clients most in favor of classical revival are also in favor of reviving many social attitudes that also are better left in the 19th century.
