"The vote came shortly after Bush invited all House Republicans to the White House to appear with him in a sort of pep rally to bolster his position in the continuing war policy fight.

"We stand united in saying loud and clear that when we've got a troop in harm's way, we expect that troop to be fully funded," Bush said, surrounded by Republicans on the North Portico"

Another example of "the great uniter" in action!!! So much for non-partisanship.....Way to set the example George!!!!

I'm tired of this empty bravado from the Dems and the Reps. and the coverage it's recieving. The Dems knew that GWB would veto this without breaking a sweat and the Reps knew this but still made a stink about it to rally their party. If the Dems want to make an impression, there are many things they could do, but it would put their political carreers on the line, so they go the safe route and play this empty threat game and allow "politics as usual" to continue while our solders are fighting over-seas.

And in response to the statement of "Another example of "the great uniter" in action!!! So much for non-partisanship.....Way to set the example George", I do believe that it was the Dems that shut out any input on bills from the Reps that were up for vote in the first week of the new session, so it was the Dems who pulled this first (at least this time anyway).

I think Bush is being a stubborn spoiled little brat. Doesn't he realize the "Timetable"is just a benchmark. If we find we cannot withdraw like we want to then we can re-evaluate again. As long as the Iraqi military knowes for certain we have their hep, they will continue to drag their feet as far as taking over completely themselves. Did you give any actual date to withdraw? NO!!!
I remember when Bush first entered this folly it was said by Rumsfeld, "6 days ,6 weeks, 6 months. Sorry, he was wrong Dead wrong. then Mr. "know-it all" (knows nothing) Cheney said "The insurgency is it it's last throes" YEAH Right Dead Eye Dick. You said that in 2005. Sheesh!

Who was first???? Wasn't it the republican majority who relegated the dems to the basement, would turn out the lights during dem meetings?

What are the "other things" the dems could do?

Lights, microphones, ordering people out of the room, ending meetings without even following the procedures that they (the Repubs) put in place.

As Nancy Pelosi said, "Elections have consequences."

Actually, there was some Republican pork in there too. Just look at which Republicans voted for the bill.
