Hey iam medical student of sandhills and can beavly aforrd to go to school. Because of the white people taking all the FAFSA money that everyone should get. i didn't get one dime of that money. the lumbee tribe (MY TRIBE)by all means should be federal recognized too recieve some help with school, health with the elderly people, and the lumbee that are lossing there jobs. WE THE LUMBEE TRIBE NEED HELP!!!!

If you really look closely, almost appear to be interbred. Yes, I agree, before dishing out hard earned tax dollars to 'so called' Lumbees, check their DNA to see how much real Indian blood they have. I guarantee they'll will find African Amer..in many of them

I am a proud Lumbee. The statements on this site are so discouraging. The world is such a hateful and derrogative place. Who are any of you to judge what our bloodline is??? What kind of blood flows through your viens? I am Native American!!! My father and all his ancestors would roll over in their graves at the statement that he is of African American descent. Funny how people can pass judgement on a whole group of people without a second thought. Now, most of the information that states we are of "mixed blood" was written by white people in the early part of the 19th century. Anyone that was not white, were considered "mulatto", check out the census records people. We go from Indian to mulatto to Indian, depending on the PERSPECTIVE of the white census taker. If you are going to talk about a person heritage, lets be historically correct. I can understand people, who do not know any better, finding an article and taking it on its face value. However, any educated person knows that you have to research sources. I appreciate everyone's viewpoint, I am Indian. Take it or leave it.

I don't think that Lumbees should be recognized as a tribe because they can not proof it. I am also fed up with them trying to get recognized under other tribes, it is vey disrespectful to that tribe. I know I am three fourths cherokee and one fourth white and I find it disrespectful to claim to be something your not. American indians by the way dont have blue eyes, ,black people hair,or brown skin. All american indians have red skin, black straight hair , and brown eyes. I know the lumbee tribe is a tri race (black, white, and american indian). the are a disgrace to the american indian communtiy with there lack of education, fighting pit bulls, drugs, crime and gangs which is everything the americans indians try to seperate theirselves from. I feel the only reason that lumbees want to be federal recognized is because most of them are on welfare. Real american indians are about doing for your self and not relying on anyone else. I think that the lumbee tribe should sumit to DNA testing so the truth will be known. And I think the Lumbee tribe should publicly apologize to all the tribes that they disrepected by trying to get federal recognized under.

I believe that there are mandates that require an Indian nation to prove a certain percentage of indian DNA , the Lumbee are the best example of how love of fellow man, regardless of background,color, can be good for all. The lost colony would not have survived witout the Lumbee/Croatans and the Lumbee would have not survived, later in time, had it not been for their understanding of English ways,by being part English.

I am proud of the fact, that in North Carolina, there is one town that I know of that has a large Indian presence,I would guess that the Lumbee are at least 60% Indian, making them in my opinion an Indian nation that should be reconized. It is probably people in Vegas and Atlantic city , that are fighting this as North Carolina casinos could hurt there business. Ron in Wilmington

How about the Lumbee Tribe stealing money from there organization. They don't deserve any recognition. If Lumbee's were true Native American's they would be recognized by now. I read a statement that said Lumbees are a disgrace because of "Lack of education,Fighting pit bulls, drugs, & gangs."
