I agree with Kalli. Add to it: Japan bypassed Thailand because the Thai government at that time supported the axis, and in fact was a member of it. Japan basically swept over the whole region with no exception. They swore to include all parts of East Asia in its Zone of Mutual Glories.
The Philippinos didn't fight for the US or anyone else. If it were still a colony of the US, the colonial govt should pay for their pension. Federal govt may help. If it's independt, as it is now, their govt should pay for that.
FDR's informal promise is gone when they declared independence from the US.

These brave veterans deserve benefits that had been promised to then. Get Japan to kick in some money to support this effort. Salamat Filipino Veterans.

As usual, the white man makes promises (like he also did to the Native Americans) and then absolutely hoses them......
America has some seriously bad karma coming our way.

As usual, a non-European country needs to beg on their kneew to the white countries for hand outs. I am ashamed for these countries whose people seem to have no shame to beg for payment for defending their own country. "Chicklets Mr.? Chicklets?"

I don't under the logic of the people in the Philippines. So the Filipinos have to be paid by the United States to defend the Philippines?
Why would a Filipino man be forced by the U.S. to defend the Philippines from the Japanese during WWII? Were they just going sit there and do nothing while the Japanese pillaged the Philippines?
Filipinos are a typical example of a lost and hopeless people. They were dominated by the Spanish, the Chinese, the Americans, the Japanese, the Americans again. Now the communist Chinese are beginning to wrap their tentacles around the Philippines. And what are the Filipinos doing about it -- nothing! I guess Filipinos are only motivated to do something only if there's handouts involved.

If the United State were to grant Hawaii its independence, do you agree that Hawaii residence who served in the US military should lose there veterans benefit.
If yes - don't support the bill
If no - support it.
They were employed by the U.S. military - they deserve their benefits.

If yes - don't support the bill If no - support it. They were employed by the U.S. military - they deserve their benefits. Depends. If it is a Native Hawaiian (only 5% of Hawaii's population) and if that Native Hawaiian was fighting to defend Hawaii from the Japanese invaders on December 7, 1941, then yes, they don't deserve any benefits. But that would include only a fraction of a percent of the immigrant people who reside in Hawaii and serve in the military. They are all Americans fighting for America. They are not Hawaiians defending Hawaii. I'll reverse your question. If Hawaiian sovereignty activists create their own militia tomorrow and say that they are defending Hawaii from foreign invaders (meaning 80 to 90% of the current residents), should they be paid by the US government for their efforts?
