Democrats fall short on bid to kill big oil's tax breaks

Senate Democrats tried Tuesday to channel public anger at $4-a-gallon gas into passing a bill to repeal federal tax breaks and subsidies for five major oil firms, but fell short.

That's right. Increase taxes on Big Oil. Surely that will lower the price of a gallon of gas.

BTW: Big Oil makes about 2 cents on a gallon of gas, the government makes 18 cents from taxes on a gallon of gas.

There you have Democrats--we have problems with a high price for a commodity, so let's tax exploration for new sources of that commodity more. Stupid hardly begins to explain this.
