Haiti needs to set up long-term plans and processes instead of allowing individual greed to run the country. Constantly propping this country up does no good and only reinforces the bad behavior by the ultra rich.
On a personal note I am sick of hearing and reading about how the US, France the UN and Canada are causing the problems in Haiti. Haiti is the problem in Haiti nothing more nothing less.

Stop sending money to Haiti, is NOT going to help, the street gangs are the ones collecting all the aid and selling it to the people.

There is only one solution. United States needs to take over that country and give it to corporations to develop into a tourist destination.

Think about it for a minute. That place is on the Caribbean, they have the same beautiful beaches and landscape that had made the Caribbean such a huge tourist destination, but these Haitians over the years had destroyed the place.

US have to TAKE OVER .

Haiti and it's people are DISGUSTING. We don't need them in America as all they do is steal and devalue neighborhoods. They choose to live the way that they do. They don't change when they get here. That is REALITY. It is FOOLISH for ANYONE to think that we should cater to them. This is how they've been there forever. They are like Africans, always taking, taking, taking but as soon as you pull out they resume their norm. Blood suckers. They have no real desire to change. It's their nature. Enough already.

It's easy to understand why Haitians risk their lives to come over here. Anyone that I have met from there will tell you people fear for their lives. But you can't help those who don't want to be helped. Until there is some kind of stable government, our assistance will go to waste or in the wrong hands.

That place has no real value as land or have natural resources. So why pay to occupy for a decade or two? It's too bad, but we can't save the world. Let's help our own before we try so hard to help other countries!!

First things first: turn off your damned caps-lock. Don't you SEE how obnoxious your own post looks?!
Second: How do you profess to know "what God wants"? In general, anyone who claims to know that is arguing for being ignored.
Finally: How do you think we could ever possibly save the Haitians? They need to be saved FROM THEMSELVES. Their worst enemies arise from among themselves -- despots and evil greedy people who find themselves able to treat other human beings with savagery. Then there is their willful ignorance, the stupidity with which they spread AIDS and other diseases. Then there is their criminality -- as though they have never heard of the concept of law and order.
What should we do? Storm in there and FORCE them to bend to our way of living, so that they can prosper? Do you think that ANY people, ANY culture, would simply sit back and accept that? So that leaves the question, HOW do we help them? If they can't see OUR EXAMPLE of how to be prosperous and better off, I doubt we'd be able to impress upon them the need for them to change.
since 1981 you in america started to die from AIDS when we did not know about it yet.so now that you have spread it to the world as you and i know so is the world, you're in denial.to make haiti responsible for AIDS is a cheap shot even from you.so you needed an ''emissary burke''
you find in the poorest country 'haiti' you shamelessly go for it,but the good thing was nobody beleived you, remember.hey ,if that make you feel good, knock yourself out.we know better,we know you sleep with all kind of animaux, that you practice all kind of sex,you invented GAY AND LESBIAN,to make a long story short you are an abomination of a country.then again we may poor but we are not deviant as you are.

Before it spins out of control? Stave off a huminatarian disaster? The time for that talk was in the 1950s ... or even before, when our Marines started clear-cutting their forests and creating famine conditions. Anything we can do now is but a drop in the bucket after the havoc the U.S. has fostered.

Jamal, you ignorant SOB. The US did not invent being gay - that goes back centuries in recorded history. You say we are deviant - probably. But our laws that allow all different types of people are the very laws and attitudes that Haiti needs. Haiti, sadly, does not know how to get along with differing points of view. True, freedom will bring out people you may see as freaks. But it is better than not having freedom at all. Of course, you are free to live elsewhere if you don't like it.

These comments are embarrassing, elitist and unAmerican, but understandable.

Not ONE post yet about what Haiti can do to get HERSELF up on her feet. Begging from other countries garners more resentment than aid.

Haiti! Come into this century! Your government and laws must reflect the people, not the bureaucrats. Stop expecting hand outs and compassion from fat cats, whether they are Haitian or American.

Haiti! Take stock of what you have to offer the world and market that! You can't chase people for a buck, but if you offer what they want, they'll gladly GIVE you that same buck.

Make the world WANT to help Haiti. Not just because it's the right thing to do, which it is, but because Haiti offers the world something it wants.

The comments you are reading here are not elitist, or unAmerican, although they may be, for whatever reason, embarrassing to you.

Most of the comments here are just a more direct statement of what you, yourself, wrote after your first sentence. If the Haitian government doesn't know what to do - indeed, if of the Haitians living in the United States, individually or collectively, don't know what to do, why would the people posting here know what to do.

You finally got it right when you said Haitians have to figure out what it is they have that anyone else in the world wants. Right now, they don't have a clue.
