We think: Congress should lift the tariff on ethanol from Brazil

Democrats and Republicans are often at odds on energy policy. But the parties should have no trouble agreeing on at least one good idea: lifting the 54-cent-a-gallon tariff on an alternative to gasoline -- ...

Tariffs should be uniform and applied to all imports. 12% percent of the retail value of all goods and services.

looks like the government is sticking it to us on all sides. the reduction of mpg with the 10% blend plus food cost increases not to mention the unknown damage this fuel blend is causing to our car's engines it becomes a big joke. the bad part the joke is on all of us.

How right you are. Everyone who agrees should email Sen. Martinez and their congressman to remove this harmful tariff.

But... what about the sugar? This'll drive up the price of cocoa puffs by 300 percent.

And then reality set in! Congress is going to do nothing about anything connected to energy until at a minimum next year. This continued partisan politicking by both sides has this whole nation in a bent over position. They both point fingers and blame the other for inaction and in the mean time nothing is done and it has been that way for over thirty years now. Tariff's, Farm Subsidies, Tax Credits and all the other Tom Foolery has amounted to nothing done. What about Florida or Louisiana's sugar cane is it not good enough for ethanol?

Let's do it the old fashion way. Invade and take what we want. Cheney could be in charge of the program. We can always use the excuse that the leader of Brazil is dangerous.

Do you like breathing? I do. I'd say I couldn't live without it. Here's what happens when you lift the tariff on Ethanol from Brazil:
Wealthy Brazilians see an opportunity to supply billions of gallons to oil-thirsty America-> They hack down the rain forest at an even greater rate than they are already. Yeah! We get a few cents off the price of gas, but the whole planet loses our largest air filter. Brilliant! Another great idea.

Actually it should lower it, I'm sure they are sweetened with corn, not sugar.

You bet. Let the fools in Brazil use their food to produce ethanol. Quit using our corn and other food grains to produce this crap. Only fools would burn their food.

That is probablyt he right solution. If you have to burn food, maybe not a good idea.

I think we should plaster the country with windmills, solar panels, and nuclear power plants to reduce the need for fossil fuels to generate power for anything but motor vehicles.

From there we continue to work towards hybrids, hydrogen, etc cars and as that comes in we soon find ourselves using 0 fossil fuels.

What did I say that was that out there?

Im for developing energy sources that are not limited versus ones that no matter what, will eventually run out. Eventually we will have to learn to survive without fossil fuels. We will have to use them in the midterm but the human population is exploding. We are only going to need more and more energy and burn through our fossil fuels more and more quickly.

As that runs out, prices will go up. At some point (I think soon) our economies will not function because the price of fuel will be too high to support using it. At that points who knows what will happen, my guess would be wars.

Regaurdless of what happens, I would like to focus on developing unlimited sources of energy. The only ones I know of are nuclear, solar, wind, bio. Bio dosent seem smart because it is food. If there are two things we need to support life its food and energy.

The only part of the US population that is burgeoning is that of Hispanics and their anchor babies. That is plain fact.
As to bio that isn't food like the dumbazz corn gig. Look at hemp! Fixes Co2, doesn't need all the chems to grow, renews itself (when it isn't being snuffed by DEA), can provide omega fatty acids, fiber for clothes, and fiber for paper, and........medicine. Want to have pet birds? Give them hemp seed. Want to catch the biggest fish? Throw some hemp seed in the water when you cast your line.
5000 years of civilation weren't wrong regarding hemp. It's only in the 20th and 21st century that we find that the powers that be are too stupid to realize something that has been around for millenia.

Have you ever seen your car...on weed??

Too bad it doesn't make a good fuel. Fine for those other things however.

What a great proposal by Senor Martinez. Perhaps he might seek to lift the ban on drilling in the gulf. I doubt it. He looks good "trying to solve the energy problem" by hurting industry in Iowa but not in Florida. Hypocrite.

Orlando is where Disneyworld is, correct?
Hemp can work as an alt fuel. In the meantime, continue to blow soap bubbles before you get to the magic kingdom ride.

So can corn. Doesn't mean it's a good idea.
