Hearing today targets 'Don't ask, don't tell' military policy

You gotta love it! It's perfectly okay for gay men and women to die for our country because our numbers are down in the all volunteer force now. The last remaining prejudice in our country may come to an end when our citizens finally vote for a women President! "Don't ask" me when that will happen - only God knows! "Don't tell" me how to live my life either! I served in the military for 19 years on active duty and well...let's just say - "we are everywhere" and "we will continue to be everywhere."

It's called "Don't Ask, Don't Tell, Don't Pursue". Funny how that last part about military witch hunts always get forgotten.

I am not going to express my personal opinion, one way or the other, but this I will point out.....

You can neither legislate morality, nor acceptance, of anything. A large percentage of Americans are not ready, nor willing, to accept a homosexual lifestyle. Doesn't matter to them if you think their opinion it is right or wrong... it offends their sensibilities, and for those of that mindset, you are not going to change it.

As Hitler so aptly demonstrated, you can change the course of a nation in one generation by indoctrinating its youth, and I can see where that in happening in this country in so many ways, but there is still a lot of resistance by parents against what is taught to their children in schools. Parents all over the country are up in arms regarding textbooks which feature same sex families.

Until that changes, perhaps during the next generation, homosexuality will not be considered "normal" by mainstream America.

As in many things, the harder you push, the stiffer the resistance.

It doesn't matter if people in the military agree with the policy (any policy). After 20 years in the military, I have never been asked my opinion on a particular policy/rule/decision etc. I was told what, where, when, and how to do it. NEVER did my C.O. ask me if I WANTED to! Pres Truman integrated the military in 1948 (and heard the same lame excuses about morale, unit cohesion, etc). Those who couldn't stand working/living/fighting with black people ended up out of the service. The same can be done today. Congress can change the law, and the troops will salute & carry on or they can get out. Any Generals/Admirals that disagree can feel free to resign; there are plenty of talented experienced (but currently closeted) gay officers to take their place.
