8. The members of one party gave black voters protection, members of the other party murdered, tortured and intimidated black voters.
9. By 1900, as the lynchings of blacks increased (by the members of Democratic Party and their Klan supporters) the number of black politicians decreased. Up to this time (1900) all of the black elected officials in Congress were Republicans.
10. By 1933, black leaders believed Republicans took their vote for granted and elected Franklin D. Roosevelt. Not long after Roosevelt took office, he banned black newspapers from the military and refused to pass key legislation to help blacks (Civil Rights Commission and Anti-Klan laws).
11. By 1945 (under President Truman), the military was in the process of being integrated, the integration process was completed under President Dwight D. Eisenhower, a Republican President.
12. During the Eisenhower Administration other Civil Rights Laws were passed and school desegregation began (as a result of pressure from the African American community).
13. During the 1960's, the Black Church, which was the foundation of the black community, ultimately became the salvation of the Democratic Party (their only hope for the White House).
14. Under President Lyndon Johnson, a Democrat, the 1964 Civil Rights Act was passed. Johnson commended Senator Everett Dirksen a Republican senator from Illinois for pushing the law through. More Republicans voted for this law than Democrats. Southern Democrats voted against the law.
15. Under Republican President, Richard Nixon the 1972 Equal Employment Opportunity Act was passed and Affirmative Action was established with quotas, goals and timetables.
16. By the time Ronald Reagan took office in 1981 both parties were being influenced by individuals who claimed they were former racist and/or Klansmen (Senator Robert Byrd, Strom Thurmond, George Wallace, and Trent Lott to name a few).
17. By 2003, the Democratic Party had elected white women and white men
as U.S. Senators (for their party), but never a black man. The Republican had elected three.
18. By 2003, the Democratic Party had never offered an apology for the
horrific atrocities that they had committed against blacks over the past 150
plus years.
Summary: The past activities of both parties has a residual resounding affect on blacks today. From one group and their supporters, millions of blacks are still raduating from the schools and colleges that they established; they are still getting the benefits from the constitutional amendments and laws that they legislated; and they are still getting protection from the organizations that they founded and financed (theNAACP). From the racist efforts and practices of the other group and their supporters, blacks are still trying to heal from the wounds inflicted on them (during the past 150 years) and they are still trying to overcome the racist practices and laws that excluded them from the mainstream. Since 1863, the Republicans have sponsored, supported and passed more Civil Rights legislation favoring African Americans than the Democratic Party.
Conclusions: Today both the Republicans and the Democrats are overlooking their past. One party is overlooking the terrible acts they have committed against blacks. The other party is overlooking the terrific things they done for blacks. One party literally gave their lives to hurt blacks, the other party gave their lives to help blacks. One needs to remember its past to correct their errors, and the other needs to remember their past to continue the things they did for us.

No matter which side each poster is on the fact that people are engaged in this debate and passionate about their respective beliefs & candidate is what it's all about.
This election has energized for perhaps the first time where people actually care who is elected.
I suspect the turnout this November will be record numbers.
No matter what we say here, it still amounts to only one vote per person.

Personally I don't think she (Hillary) has totally given up the ghost. I can hardly wait to see what she has planned for Obama. All politicians have feet of clay and take risks that a normal person would not consider. Guess they feel that no one would dare report their sins. Love the net !

According to Barack Obama, Gianna Jessen shouldn't exist.

Miss Jessen is an exquisite example of what antiabortion advocates call a "survivor." Well into her third trimester of pregnancy, Gianna's biological mother was injected with a saline solution intended to induce a chemical abortion at a Los Angeles County abortion center. Eighteen hours later, and precious minutes before the abortionist's arrival, Gianna emerged. Premature and with severe injuries that resulted in cerebral palsy. But alive.

Had the abortionist been present at her birth, Gianna would have been killed, perhaps by suffocation. As it was, a startled nurse called an ambulance, and Gianna was rushed to a nearby hospital, where, weighing just two pounds, she was placed in an incubator, then, months later, in foster care.

Gianna survived then, and thrives now, because, as she told me recently with a laugh, "I guess I don't die easy." Which is what the abortionist might have thought as he signed his victim's birth certificate. Gianna's medical records state that she was "born during saline abortion."

As an Illinois state senator, Barack Obama twice opposed legislation to define as "persons" babies who survive late-term abortions. Babies like Gianna. Mr. Obama said in a speech on the Illinois Senate floor that he could not accept that babies wholly emerged from their mother's wombs are "persons," and thus deserving of equal protection under the Constitution's 14th Amendment.

A federal version on the same legislation passed the Senate unanimously and with the support of all but 15 members of the House. Gianna was present when President Bush signed the Born Alive Infants Protection Act in 2002.

When I asked Gianna to reflect on Mr. Obama's candidacy, she paused, then said, "I really hope the American people will have their eyes wide open and choose to be discerning.... He is extreme, extreme, extreme."

Democrats are rushing this bill through because of the favors for Fan and Fred and new spending for left-wing activists like Acorn. But the reluctance of many Republicans to look out for taxpayers is harder to comprehend. They'll get little credit this year for letting the majority Democrats say they did something for "housing," and GOP voters will blame them for rescuing the irresponsible.
Plus our properrty rights have been compromised as a result of deal between Barney Frank and Treasury Secy. Paulsen. Of all the unintended consequences of the housing bill that passed the House yesterday — of which there will likely be many — one of the most ironic and far-reaching may be this: that whatever security marginal homewoners have from foreclosures, their homes will be far less safe from being taken by a bureaucrat through eminent domain.
That’s because the bill unveiled this week — as the result of negotiations between House Financial Services Committee Chairman Barney Frank and Treasury Secretary Hank Paulson — takes specific language protecting property rights from the housing bill that most recently passed the Senate and renders it almost meaningless. As a result, the billions of dollar in new grants the bill provides for “the production, preservation and rehabilitation” of housing units, could stimulate a bonanza of state and local property confiscation of the type green-lighted in the Supreme Court’s 5-4 decision Kelo v. New London.
The nearly 700-page bill craftily replaces the Senate’s prohibition on funds “used in conjunction with property taken by eminent domain” with a looser ban on using the funds for a “project that seeks to use the power of eminent domain.”
This new language in the House bill would give property-grabbing bureaucrats an easy way around the supposed prohibition on using eminent domain. All they would have to do is take property for any reason that Kelo allows, and then come up with another project for the specific use of that property. If land were grabbed for general economic development, as Kelo permits, and then a new project were created for a city to sell this land to developers, this would likely not be a violation of the House bill. After all, the new project isn’t “seeking” to use eminent domain, it is merely using land that had already been confiscated.

As an old lady,I'm stumped who to vote for,but I'm guessing it won't be a democrat..I was republican,and still believe in small government..which at some time in the past ,hell I don't know how many years,we had a small goverment,people depended on work,jobs,family,the american dream...and worked and had the dream..what in Gods name happened?I don't know about you dear,but I don't want no idiot in the government to tell me what the hell I can do.No one will give anyone a handout without something in return.Any time the government screws with something,someone gets screwed..

I said I was republican,I went independent 6 months ago..the 2 party system is not working,it's destroying this country.We should all get along..when it comes to politics is brings the worst in people..There are some things in both parties,I could live with.Than there are those things,that just make me mad..like the housing crisis..put the crooks in jail,and don't give anything to anyone,that isn't smart enough to know,you don't borrow money you can't pay back..but their going to do it anyway...you all better remember that,when you vote..this is both parties..not just the democrats..if only they had someone..running besides mutt and jeff,that was worth a damn.....lol
