Sen. John McCain enjoys overwhelming support from the military’s professional core, though race appears to be a decisive factor for career-oriented black service members, a Military Times survey of nearly 4,300 readers indicates.
McCain, R-Ariz., handily defeated Sen. Barack Obama, D-Ill., 68 percent to 23 percent in a voluntary survey of 4,293 active-duty, National Guard and reserve subscribers and former subscribers to Army Times, Navy Times, Marine Corps Times and Air Force Times.
ALL
McCain 68%
Obama 23%

1 Democrats support the military as much as anyone. Differences in voting for war funding have been over inclusion of a timetable, not how much funding to give them. Democrats want the troops home from Iraq safe and sound and to let the Iraqi's stand by themselves and use their own monetary surplus to rebuild their country. It was the current Republican administration that committed us to a needless, destabilizing war in Iraq with too few troops and no plan for the guerilla war afterward. Democrats would have finished up in Afghanistan, the central front on the War on Terrorism (because that's where Bin Laden is). It could be argued that by over-committing our forces Bush, Cheney, Rumsfeld have done grave damage to our military. They've outsourced huge portions of the military's logistics and support to private companies bent on sucking as much money as possible for as little as possible in return. Look for more scandals in this area as time goes on and muck gets raked. |

3 So=why does this woman scare soooo many people? From the word of her nomination as the Rep VP candidate-people who claim to be the more "liberal" and "giving" of our country-began lampooning everything from her special needs baby to her husband-and backing up her pregnant daughter. After reading stories from various news sources-and pundits-and just some self appropriated "saviors of the world"... I have noticed that for some reason-people in cities are truly uncomfortable with people who live in urban or rural areas of our country! One article claiming they couldnt find "joe sixpack" etc-and wondering who joe six pack was-went on to insinuate that joe was the rich person-the guy with the auto shop next door-who was richer than the attorney. An obvious attempt at covering their own dismay with a bad mechanic I suppose- Others-just dont know about how the larger percentage of this country actually lives! It is a democracy after all-perhaps its worth recognizing! Someone who lives in Alaska-rural and alot of urban areas-will probably have a gun-or several -and it is accepted. For some-its the last ditch effort of protection-of controlling not only their property-keeping animals safe-etc...but even to have a say in saving their lives if needed! So now that someone from these areas (again majority) comes out-the people of the more refined-the self imposed "brilliant minority" find it somehow disturbing! I will tell you this-I would take 1 Sarah Palin over 10000 eco terrorists any day! Being someone who actually has lived on both sides of this fence-I realized that I understand this dichotomy! And-that its easy for "joe sixpack" to live in the city-but it is practically impossible for "buffy bicyclist" to live the other lifestyle-or even comprehend it! In short-the rural and urban people are far more capable and tougher- than folks combined to gridlock their entire lives. I can also attest to their core values being much much stronger-better-more giving. The eco-terrorists or liberal self imposed "saviors"-are lacking patience-understanding-or even basic human compassion in comparison! Dont take my word for it-get a flat in the city-and see what happens. Then-have a flat in a rural area of america-and I guarantee in the first example you will receive nothing but honks-the finger-and angry liberals showing their ways- in the second example-I guarantee a calm and helping hand will be there-one that will not accept money for the help no matter how hard you try! |

1 TY very much! I am just tired of the good people that I know personally-being somehow lampooned by big city authors and writers. Some saying that for some reason "my type" of people dont get it-when in fact they are smarter and tougher than any single city dweller I have ever seen! |

2 Yeah, aw shucks. Rural conservatives are smarter, more patriotic, more honest, more God-fearing. You betcha. Those city slickers are ELITISTS-- but us humble, simple, normal folk are 100% SUPERIOR. Wink wink wink wink golly-gee!! Sarah Palin is the elitist. YOU are an elitist. And a hypocrite. |

4 And I assure you, the vast majority troops DO NOT support McCain. I am in the Army, and I don't know of anyone in my squad, platoon, company, or batalion that supports McCain. The Army Times (who conducted this poll) is nothing but propaganda. Nearly everything I have ever read in that trash is nothing but lies |

2 I see Of course-you have the super elitist powers to tell everyone else who to vote for- Interesting that somehow-somewhere-you found yourself to be sooo much better than everyone else! Thanks-for being another person helping me make my point! |

1 I was thinking the same thing---- A liberal changing his skin-trying to force people into his beliefs--- or her I suppose-either way this person is the exact type of elitist that I am speaking of! So many whining crying babies such as that one out there-casting their all knowing crap at everyone else-if you dont vote their way you are this or that-from obama supporters it hits at all angles to the normal american citizen! obama seems to represent the angry-misguided-hateful america! That is just something I do not want to support and promote! So-as long as they keep their yelling-minds keep changing across this country- Why do they have to force people to change their way of thinking-by yelling and calling names? I guess there isnt anything else to their beliefs-last ditch effort-whine and cry like a baby until you get your way! |

1 The "Whine" Generation reminds me of my kids when they were 2-5 years of age - would screech, pout, stamp their feet until someone gave in and did it their way. I found that a good swat on the butt and time out in the corner usually brought them back to reality. Too bad we couldn't apply that to these liberal whiners

2 Wow they must be all black troops. I to am serving in the Army and though many of us do not talk about at work I see many of them with McCain stickers on their cars. I also see many of them reading conservative magazines. All my close friends I serve with are either McCain supporters or leaning towards him. In a unit of 344 Soldiers I have only met two Obama supporters and they are not into or following politics. I have not seen one Obama sticker in the parking lot. |
