New York Times defends decision not to run McCain's op-ed, says...

McCain's presidential campaign sent the newspaper the op-ed on Friday. In it, the Arizona senator describes how the buildup of U.S. forces in Iraq has helped curb violence.

Government inspectors finally have a big clue in the nationwide salmonella outbreak: They found the same bacteria strain on a single Mexican-grown jalapeno pepper and issued a stronger warning for consumers to avoid fresh jalapenos.
Nor are they saying the tainted pepper exonerates tomatoes sold earlier in the spring that consumers until last week had been told were the prime suspect.
Still, "this genetic match is a very important break in the case," said Dr. David Acheson, the Food and Drug Administration's food safety chief.
For now, the government is strengthening its earlier precaution against hot peppers to a full-blown warning that no one should eat fresh jalapenos — or products such as fresh salsa made from them — until it can better pinpoint where tainted ones may have sold.
Tomatoes currently on the market, in contrast, now are considered safe to eat.
The Texas plant, Agricola Zaragoza, has suspended sales of fresh Mexican jalapenos and recalled those shipped since June 30 — shipments it said were made to Georgia and Texas.
But a sign over Agricola Zaragoza's spot inside a huge produce warehouse on Monday displayed pictures of tomatoes, onions and tomatillos alongside jalapenos — suggesting the small vendor might have handled both major suspects in the outbreak that has sickened 1,251 people.

When the New Yorker printed their "controversial" cover of Obama, McCain put politics aside and publicly denounced it.

Will Obama now put politics aside and publicly denounce the New York Times for its suppression of free speech / freedom of the press? Don't hold your breathe.

NYT is a liberal rag that has communistic values. They suppress the truth and print fairy tales. The NYT should loose their rights as a publication and be put to rest

Never happen. And I wish McCain would start taking the gloves off. BHO will do whatever he needs to do to win. This is a guy that squared off with HRC and won only because he got nasty with the queen of nasty. McCain is going to get smoked unless he starts showing some strength and backbone.

Anyone claiming the NYT is liberal, let alone left, has little understanding of poltical thought. If you think the NYT's is left, then you are on the psycho right.

Has the surge worked? Or are there just not so many people left to kill? Maybe Baghdad is the most segregated city on Earth, with the different ethnicities living behind walls. Maybe the definition of "sectarian violence" has changed. Just maybe.

No presidential candidate should get to use the NYT's as a means to generally take credit for something that may or may not have worked, while ripping on his opponent who wrote about his specific plan. This is how the grown up world works. This isn't cable television political smut.

THE NEW YORK TIMES showed its left wing liberal bias by not printing McCain's response to Obama's editorial op-ed. THE NEW YORK POST has printed McCain's op-ed.

So McCain, talk to the NYT and submit another op-ed. Show some gumption. No, you would rather whine about how liberal and unfair the NYT is since they printed an Obama op-ed. I suppose getting your panties all bunched up about the New York Times gives you the press attention you crave, huh? "John McCain Whines, Boo Hoo". What's next, a few rants on FOX News about that gosh darn liberal and unpatriotic media? I bet FOX News has never covered that story before.

America's strong allies, both present and former (thank you, Bush) have voted already. And they have selected Barack Obama as their choice for president of the United States. Sorry, you lose. They see something hopeful and new in Senator Obama. Your message, on the other hand, is one of old and moldy failed Republican politics. Yeah, we need more wars, more fossil fuel usage and more corporations gone wild and unregulated like Enron and giant mortgage banks---like we need you, John McCain.

OK Stan, try reading the positions of the NYT, as I have for years. It's a total, far left tool now. Do you like partial-birth abortions? The NYT think they're just fine. Check their archives.

The New York Times isn't to the left? It took the NYT weeks longer than any other news outlet to even admit the surge was arguably succesful.

Obama's plan was for withdrawal in 16 months "unless the situation changed." In other words, I might withdraw them or I might not, it depends. The New York Times then decides that this is "a detailed plan". It's yet another embarrasment for this paper, which has trotted out issues of McCain's citizenship and McCain's alleged "affair", which it had to backtrack and apologize for.

That's reminiscent of when John Kerry came back from Europe and said all the leaders there couldn't wait for him to get elected. How'd that work out for him?

Yup...and they continue to push readers away everyday. They run the paper as if it were a gov't program with no obligation to shareholders or desire to earn a profit. NYT is the poster child for the death of journalism.
