Call for more border fencing stripped from bill | The Columbus ...

Full story: Columbus Dispatch

Members of Congress have stripped a provision requiring 300 more miles of tall fencing along the U.S.-Mexico border from a Department of Homeland Security appropriation bill, saying the funds needed to build the barrier would be better spent on alternative security measures.

My America doesn't build walls, we tear them down.

The number of illegal immigrants crossing our southern border has exponentially declined due to our dismal economy and the way we keep the numbers of illegal immigrants going down then stop them is by 'forcing' employers on this side to stop hiring illegals.

When America once again returns to good economic times we should learn we cannot build a wall on our southern border high enough or buried deep enough or built thick (wide) enough or even long enough and when we try we end up with nothing but a very expensive and ugly boondoggle.

Would someone bother to tell DeMint that a "tall" border fence can quickly (and easily) constructed "taller" ladder! Last time I checked, there was still plenty of wood to make ladders in Mexico.
If DeMint would spend more time with cronies and encourage stricter enforcement of the law against U.S. employers who knowingly hire (or are careless in that regard) illegals, we wouldn't have the problem we now do. No work = fewer illegal border crossings.

Thank god they are starting to scale that thing back. Not only, does it make no sense (right on NW OH-build a taller ladder!), but it dramatically impacts wildlife and our environment. At the same time it makes us less safe, b/c it does not address any other issues it is supposed to.

One idea for the money is for energy security-wind, solar, efficiencies, gasification, and carbon capture and storage.

Agreed. The consequences of these fences for wildlife are devastating, and in the Earth-be-damned period of the ugly, Dispatch-supported Bush Administration, waivers of environmental laws and reviews became standard operating procedure.

OK...you leftists are free to fret over the purported consequences of border fences to the free-range chupacabras. Meanwhile, sane Americans will address the very real and devastating consequences of the illegal invasion to U.S. citizen-taxpayer-voters and the U.S. economy.

I'm sure the U.S. Chamber of Commerce is elated by this decision. They love slave labor.

The Dems have announced they do not intend to discuss illegal immigration until next year but, of course, their 2010 campaigns will be in full swing then, so once more nothing will be done to stem the illegal tide. Illegals = Democrat votes via SEIU and ACORN fake registrations.

Actually it is not any hope for illegal votes that will prevent action on immmigration -- you're being a cynical jackass. We didnt need fake votes to beat the Bush-Cheney GOP, pal -- trust me, the public was quite sick of your ugly little party and still is.

What is true is that voters of Hispanic and Latino descent are now rejecting the GOP right and voting Dem in unprecedented numbers -- legal voters. Citizens. And that will be a factor. Although the Republican right wasnt very helpful to Senators McCain and Kennedy when they stuck their necks out to try to get a bill passed. They were more interested in scoring cheap political points. Surprise.

Funny how you didnt answer the question so ill post it again, read careful. Who do you think all those reps up for re-election in 2010 are going to vote for , a voting block of 16% or the 55% against amnesty, Try and answer the question without running for it.

You're wrong, or at least you're comment is misleading. Voters of Hispanic and Latino descent went WAY more heavily for Obama than they did for Kerry -- a direct response to the anti-immigration right -- and those numbers changed some Western states. Bush made real inroads into this bloc -- McCain got clobbered. As a direct response to the Lou Dobbs jackass right.

You misread my statement. Hispanic voters have always voted heavy in favor of dems. And what anti immigration are you referring? Are are you trying to blur the line between legal immigrants and illegal aliens? Please post your facts that lou dobbs is again "immigrants", when in fact he's against illegal aliens--who are not immigrants.

Daily Horoscope for December 11

Gemini

Beware of taking on too much because it will be an effort to get through it all. You might even have to give up the unequal struggle, which won't do much for your ego or your reputation. Be especially careful about this if you're at work because a certain person may try to take advantage of what they see as your weakness or failure to deliver the goods.
