Many foster kids are criminals. We would never consider having a foster child. There are too many horror stories. If the kids don't get their way, they often fabricate criminal charges against the foster parents. Often they allege they were beaten, tortured, or molested. The police will take a report and probably name the PARENT(S) as the SUSPECT(S). The court costs are staggering just to clear your name. And there may be times when the foster parent is convicted, even though he/she never did what he/she was accused of. A molestation conviction most often will stay on your record until you die. And you propably must register as a sex offender for life. You can longer own any firearm. It's just not worth it. Happy Halloween MERRY CHRISTMAS

None of my kids finished High School. They got their GEDs as soon as the turned 17 and went straight into College. High School is pretty pointless these days.

And Rethuglican Talibangelical fascists want to outlaw birth control, and will soon pass into law in 12th century Mississippi. The poorest, most backward, hightes child poverty, highest infant mortality, most uneducated place in America. And one of the most Republican.

Most kids now live in a one parent household; People know how to make kids but not how to grow them. They want to be their kid's best friend instead of being a parent.

Pointless as compared to what exactly? How does a teen occupy their time more productively than finishing up their mandatory education? Granted, some of the classes are a waste of time, and the quality of the education sometimes seem unproductive, however the time spent in a school environment teaches children social skills, discipline and perhaps opens their minds up to new interests. I hated high school. I admit that. But I did manage to learn things outside of the education system, like how people think and act, what motivates a person (whether teacher or student) to behave in a particular way, and ever once in a while I learned something of interest that I can pursue in later years. Yes, I "put in my time" and graduated and even though I didn't like it, I don't regret it either. My son hated high school as well...lol But, he graduated and is now in college. All things in their own time. The act of attending high school, whether he liked it or not, taught him self-discipline and a "generic" education which gave him the basics for his own choices for this future.

Sadly, Republicans are trying to privatize or "charterize" public education nationwide, so we can start paying for it out of pocket, while they continue to tax us for it, as they successfully did to television, phones, and much else in society. And busting public teacher unions is part of their little problem as well. Of course Curtis probably "homeskooled" his kids, which only does them a disserivice when they have to deal in a world that many can't cope in as a result of their insular education.

This is just more malarkey so the GOP can justify their calls for us to give even more money to the rich.

High school, like most of college, is just a weeding-out process, keep raising the bar so more kids will quit until you have the ones who are psychologically and academically fit to move on to success in the big world. That used to work pretty well years ago when kids who couldn't survive in school could drop out and still find employment that paid a decent wage. Those days are long gone. Our present economy does not produce near enough of those jobs any more. A kid drops out of high school or college toady and ends up flipping burgers or mowing grass or something like that. No family-wage job. It's a different world.

We got fed up after they made them watch that Al Gore movie three times. And that was here in Texas. Plus they never took President's Day off until Obama got elected. Now they do it every year? High School is just liberal bullshit brainwashing. Get your kids out as soon as you can!

Republican kids do fine with or without High School diplomas.

Actually, my children are military brats and were fortunate enough to attend DoD schools for most of their education. It was only after arriving in New Jersey in 2002 and then Texas in 2005 that we decided to give them the option to "GED out" and start college a year early. Two are on the Deans list at Texas A&M and the other is a Freshman struggling a bit at BU. My children have something that Demoncrat kids don't have...Love for America, confidence in themselves, and the ability to see a wall of bullshit coming at them from a mile away.

You've indoctrinated them well, living in polluted, socially and politically backward Texas for the rest of their lives will be easier than having to compete in the real world. Just be sure not to let them travel overseas or anywhere in America with liberal values, they'll become liberals very quickly. LOL

I'd be willing to bet the dropout rate is not much better for kids from single parent households - particularly those in urban environments. I grew up in the housing projects and many of the kids from single parent households I went to elementary school with were long gone by the time I reached high school.
