Specter was a member of a virtually extinct species... the moderate Republican. He was a professional politician, but he was both intelligent and quite capable in that role. He came to prominence at a time when public service was a valued contribution to American Society, and was forced out in time when extremism had become a virtue, and compromise a vice.

The nation is now coming to realize, after the recent Christmas time hostage taking of the best interests of the average American citizen- in this case a payroll tax rollback extension and extension of unemployment benefits- for crass partisan gain by the Republicans. Whether it's the circus in Congress, or the carnival barker atmosphere of the Republican presidential nomination process, America is coming to the realization that ideologues of incapable of governance, and serving first and foremost the needs of the American people, not the destructive goals of the extreme elements of the GOP.

Arlen Specter was a RINO. Extremism was not a factor in shoving the traitor out of office. He lost to Americanism. A rare thing in todays politics.

First, I don't live in Irwin; you need to be schooled about ISP locations that may be ported here.

Obviously, however, your location was accurately reported. Sucks to be you, for that and so many, many other reasons!

He came to prominence when America was asleep, and there were 3 stations on the dial controlled by the same interest. He was rewarded for taking credit for the 'Magic Bullet'.

He was forced out by the GOP when his leftist ways were exposed. Jumping parties, to the Dems, when he knew he wouldn't get the GOP nomination, thinking the seat belonged to him, no the voters of PA.

And now we have a limp-wristed barroom book keeper & pretzel bowl filler who led his super committee to failure. Thanks to his touting by gopher politicos, doomey, had a blood rush to his pointy head and cried when he failed and cried about the automatic cuts. One term and done for doomey. And that's one too many.

Arlen sure saved Geprge H W Bush's ass========== Arlen Specter and the Single Bullet Theory
The chief architect of the Single Bullet Theory was the Warren Commission's ambitious junior counsel, Arlen Specter, who would later become a U.S. senator....
