Could the "No smokie near me" blogger be correct? Could major devastating lawsuits be headed towards Atlantic City casinos? If so, what would be the ramifications for the casinos, the state, the employees and the gamblers?
your thoughts?

In NJ most of the residents have to put up with pollution from power plants cars, trucks, jets so who is doing anything to help us = the air outside is worst then some secondhand smoke in a casino. I think this nation has a lot of major problems that we need to contend with immediately and second hand smoke is NOT one of them = get real people, sort out your priorities because there are a lot greater threats to your life then exposure to secondhand smoke. JArruda The state of NJ decided that 99.9 percent of all businesses would be smoke free because of the potential health hazards caused by second hand smoke. The only exemption was the Casinos. WHY? The Casinos bought by the state legislators off. NJ will pay for their ignorance. Every employee in NJ should be protected from second hand smoke. Casino employees are not second class citizens and should be treated the same as ALL employees in NJ, or pay the price with multiple lawsuits.

NO NO NO Johnson and Johnson and all the other drug companies in NJ bought out the NJ lawmakers so they could sell their stop smoking aids. they spent hundreds of millions dollars lobbying for this law under the idea of clean air. Yet they also spent millions of dollars to fight air pollution laws they would cost them money in their pill manufacturing plants. It's all politics and Money..

The tobacco companies and the tax revenue they bring into the north east is not as much as politicians would like. NJ state as well as NY makes a killing on tobacco Tax. Not so much with big pharmo especially when all of them are moving out of New Jersey. So who benefits by big pharmo? the companies themselves. Be careful what you say about BIG Pharmo or they will send their hit men to get you.

However people will sue no matter what will they be devestating who knows. It would not affect the gamblers the employees would feel better breathing some clean air and the casinos they would do fine. The one month a few years ago that the casinos didnt allow smoking they were more crowded than ever and the smokers were still there sneaking their cigerettes making believe they didnt see the no smoking signs they were leaning against. i dont think Atlantic City will ever get rid of the smoking because there are people who just dont care and want it to be your pleasure to breathe the smoke. The non smoking sections which is 75% of the casino would work if some smokers would learn how to read.

Fines are usually levied against the casino managers and are not much money lets say about $200. for permitting smoking where it should not be. The other is a lawsuit or mass lawsuits, which represent thousands if not millions of employees who have a joined a mass lawsuit represented by a legal firm or firms against an employer or product. Most companies are usually bankrupted by the lawsuits, the plaintiffs get a few bucks each for their participation and the law firms make billions of dollars. In the end it is sad for everyone but the law firms, that's how it is.

I just came back from NOLA and I did visit that casino. I can't even begin telling you how horrible it is! I frequent AC casinos and always complain about the stink there, but it's nothing, NOTHING to compare with terrible air quality at Harrahs, NOLA. It seems that 90% of gamblers there believe they're on the mission to keep it burning at all time. So much cigar smoking that it just makes staying there unbearable even for a short while. Asking an employee about a non-smoking area brought a shrug and a smirk on his face. I played some slots for about 10 minutes and ran the hell away out of there.
The casino is also so run down, it makes AC joints look like palaces. Plenty of old, scratched, beat up machines many of them non-working, torn and broken chairs. Never again!

I think the casinos should try a little harder to try to stop the smokers from smoking in non smoking areas other than that there is nothing much they can do. Some people are very selfish and think rules dont apply to them. True lawyers will get richer but if just one lawsuit against the casinos for allowing smoking and not enforcing the laws about non smoking sections would work and they would hurt bad financially it would make the casinos wake up. But short of throwing smokers out for smoking in non smoking sections there is nothing much they can do, smokers become selfish when it comes to their poisen.

I have seen smokers use the try's at the bottom of the slots for an ash tray in a non smoking section in AC. Now how rude can you be. When ask to put it out by a security person this person acted they did nothing wrong. So yes I agree some smokers are very selfish.

Try to step with your kid onto a casino floor and the security are all over you. Why do you think it is? Of course if you fine them $50 it won't work, but try 500K fine and believe me those smokers won't even have a chance to blink before they are asked to put it out or leave the premises. If anyone it's a well-run casino that knows how to enforce the rules.

SMOKING BAN KILL 15 in New York.
They have yet to show any proof that anyone died of Second Hand Smoke, Just allot of estimates and phony studies. BUT we now have proof that the smoking bans do kill people..
15 people from China Town were killed in a bus accident coming home from the Mohegan Sun casino in CT. On the news last night they talking to one of the people that was on the bus and lived. They asked him why go all the way to the Mohegan Sun to play when you have the race track casinos in NY allot closer to home. His answer was we go there once a week because we can smoke there and NOT at any casino in New York. So what that says to me is 15 people today would be alive if they could smoke at NY casinos. They really dont stop you from walking with kids thru the casino, i have done it when its the shorteset route to get where you are going. Walking with a child thru the casino will not get you sick but people blowing smoke in your face will. Im sure the state of NJ would love to be able to fine people 500K but they cannot its excessive when its impossible to stop selfish people. Something needs to be done but im not sure what.

WTG NY Obviously you are not a gambler. People go to different casinos to gamble because for one reason or another they like the casino. I do not like smoke and always sit in a non smoking section but i will not go to the casino in Yonkers (EmpireCity) because it is not a hotel just a casino and not a great one at that. I dont want a day trip or the feeling of day trippers at a casino i want a resort with nice restaurants and fun things to do. The Mohegan Sun is a Indian Casino which is why they can allow smoking all over the place. I know people who are non smokers that like to go there because they have won or they like the atmosphere. May the people who died rest in peace and may those injured have a speedy recovery. Seems like the bus driver has a shady background, we will know more after an investigation.

I agree they won't stop you from walking through the casino as in when you keep moving, but they chased me away on two occasions (Resorts): first when we lost her mom inside and ended up on on the floor for about maybe 10 seconds wondering around, and the second time when I stayed in line at their counter. Took them less than a minute to escort us out. I'm also not sure why you think $500K fine is exessive. First of all, I'm talking about fines for a casino, not smokers. Second of all, a security guide who escorted me out of Resorts told me the Gaming commission fines them $1M if they catch a minor on the floor. Now, he might be misinformed, but I'm sure the fine is substantial, since they are so eager to enforce it. From what I read when the AC councel banned smoking at the casinos (the ban was lifted a week later), there were not any serious violations. So it's not really a matter of enforcement, rather political will.

that Security Guard was lieing. Borgata is always in the newspaper for courting underage players last one i saw writtn about they were fined i believe 300,000 they also take fines for underage people in their clubs i read it was 50,000 everytime they are caught. I am not aware if they know or dont know the people are underage so it really may not be their fault. So far as the underage people in the clubs they allow girls in, guys they are more strict with. My friends daughter when she was 19 went to borgata with her friends and she was let into Mur Mur with no problem. It may be worth it to take the fine because they make so much money from these underage people.

Even so, a casino would think long and hard whether to allow smoking if they had to pay 50-300K every time someone lights up. What I'm saying is that ban on smoking in casinos is absolutely realistic.
