Kinda makes one wonder? How many people are filing for disability ? Can't blame them unless they are trying to scam the Government!

the scammers have no problem geting approved, the ones that have real problems, like a bad spine, you get rejected, but if you think it's funny your house caught fire, or just pure lazy, they get approved,
I have been waiting for S.S. approval for 4 years this April. and still being denied,

I agree 100% with John Deere Man. The scammers are the ones who make it difficult for the people who are really disabled to get approved. My husband has been denied twice and we finally got an attorney. However, I'm sure that doesn't get him a hearing any faster. It is very, very frustrating!! Hopefully patience will pay off for everyone who are in limbo.

I appled 4 years ago and was approved last month but was told that I can still get denied after the adj.review board can still deny me all togather. Thats just not right. I hope John Deer Man gets it.

This is the way healthcare will been. Trust the government.

No MRI's for tests for months. It will be worst that overseas.

The idea that things are faster in Toledo is a joke. It is averaging 18-20 months here to GET A HEARING. Getting a decision after that could be another 1-2 months.

This is just great. God knows these people don't need the money. To the Social Security people, those awaiting hearings are all trying to get the employees money. It's just like the VA. Face Facts people. Most of the people filing claims are good people. They've been hurt or disabled in some way and their lives are put on hold while you send emails or talk around the water fountain. I know most of you are hard working folks. We only hear about the bad ones. Many of my friends are disabled. They were hurt serving their country. Please don't forget them. They gave their all for you. Give your all for them now. Semper Fi

They need to recheck everyone on SSI and take lazy bums off it cause they have a hang nail, of weigh a metric ton cause they found out you can get SSI for weighing as much as a mack truck.

There is a point at which morbid obesity can prevent a person from doing substantial gainful activity (working). You suggest that it is easy to get SSI. It is not. You are a dumb pig.

too many people are getting these benefits who should not...if your fail at drug rehab you get a check...if you are blue you get a check...it takes money away from legitimately disabled people...sick.
it should not be an EASY process...

What you say is not remotely true, ignoramus. For example, drug addiction and alchoholism have been barred as grounds for disability for well over a decade -- no one gets SSI for "failing at drug rehab."
Pigs like you make places like Topix such a cesspool. You don't know jack so you just make things up.

What they are not telling you is that the backlog begins when you file for a hearing. That does not count from the beginning application process where most are rejected by the Bureau of Disability Determinations, where if the rules were followed correctly, there would be few still fighting for years for their disability. Also bear in mind SSI is welfare and RSDI is where you paid into F.I.C.A., basically an insurance policy. What I would like to see is an investigation at the beginning part where BDD does the denials. If certain federal laws were enforced, I know some agency workers that would be in jail and/or paying hefty fines.

Those people who are still waiting over the years, can always call their Federal Politician. Their office has constituent services, that sometimes are staffed by good people who do their jobs. They then initiate a Congressional inquiry as to what is happening to your case so you know that it isn't in a black hole. Do it before around 4-6 months, so you dont get denied the FIRST TIME. BDD gets very nervous when the Reps start nosing around about your case. I had three people go to their reps and the issues got resolved in two months as their file suddenly floated to the top.
Their disabilities were legit so they all got approved.

This is exactly what I was referring to in my initial post. The BDD purposely denies applications up front knowing it will have to reach an ALJ before it gets approved, not to mention, you'll have an attorney by this point who takes a chunk of your money. In cases like this, the Judge should reprimand the BDD personel who denied the application in the beginning of the process.

That's good advice George, however some of us aren't so fortunate even with the assistance of a Congress Person. I know, I have CongressLady Mary Jo Kilroy inquiring into my case and nothing has come from it except answers from the BDD that "his case is under appeal and there's a huge backlog".
