This is funny, since the AMA strongly opposed Medicare back in the 60's.

This is the same AMA that restricted the number of med school enrollees not that long ago...
And voila. We now have a shortage of doctors with the baby boomers hitting hard core medical care age.
Way to look after the public interest, AMA!
And then there is the Republicans...we don't care about anything but income taxes and killing islamics...let the market handle all of health care...private hospitals are always more efficient under every circumstances...
And what do we have? An inefficient medical care system, that under performs, and harms the pocket books, bank accounts of its patients, led by the do nothing anarchist Republicans supported by their for profit medical corporations and the manipulative AMA on the other end violating its sacred oath of do no harm.

Gotta love the AMA calling out the right wing Republicans making life difficult for senior citizens.

The more the Republicans and their antics are held up to the light of day the better.

And if we all do our part this fall, maybe Sen Wicker, Sen Sununu, and Sen Cornyn will be looking for suitable new lobbyist gigs next January. That would be good for America.

If anyone thinks a government run health care system would be better just look at the mess the Medicare System is in. To solve funding problems the government cuts funding and limits access to healthcare. If the Medicare system wants to save money medical fraud needs to be stopped.

As a physician I generally equate the AMA with the National Rifle Association. Keep in mind that they represent only about 20% of physicians but yield amazing power due to questionable business practices.

They helped create the Medicare mess. I will say that this is the first time I have ever seen them act even close to responsibly. Shocking but most of us physicians are Democrats because we care about our fellow citizens and to have them act against republicans is refreshing.

That said, I would never join the AMA any more than I would support the NRA.

We think the American people should enjoy the same health care that is provided to US Senators and other government employees.
Either we all get the coverage they have or they can be covered with the same coverage as all of us.
Why the double standard?
It's all funded withn tax dollars.

I really don't see how you can align the AMA to NRA .. But that doesn't matter.. We shouldn't be trying to turn the U.S. into a socialized country like the Democrats are trying to do .. You as a physician to me would be the first to put down the social medicine proposal .. It looks great on paper .. But not so great in reality .. Ask the Canadians or Europeans .. Besides whos going to pat for it .. The working man is already burdened rising cost of daily living .. Now to add more tax to pay for socialized medicine to provide coverage for him and his family but now to cover the ones that don't contribute,It would bogg down the over burden system we have now so the working man is going to get even less for his dollar that before ..
The AMA could start by insisting that the government start looking into all the fraud and waste that is in the system .. Investigate the medical groups that bill medicare/medicade for everything possiable and more if they think they can get it by when all the patient did was drop off a urin sample..
We need to cut the benefits for the illegals .. If they have a kid in this country .. make sure it's healthy and ship it and it's parents back to their home country ..
The list could go on .. But if the government could just police up on the fraud, waste and immigration there would be plenty out there for the people that deserve it
