This Short Take is interesting and clever.
Not too much in support of Mr.Spota, but just enough to remind us that one of the biggest concerns about Spota being the DA is his 'closeness to law enforcement.' The author points out in an indirect way that Spota can do his job despite his unhealthy ties to the very same people he may have to investigate should the occasion arise. This very short and laser type comments is in contradiction to a what the Suffolk County Bar, NYS SIC, and the subject of the Catterson/Spota debates stated : The district attorney is too close to the police to effectively administer justice when the district attorney relies on the police to investigate those crimes that come to his attention. This very clever SHORT TAKE can be an answer to Mr.Spota's relationship to ex-detective McCready, and now his investigator on the Tankleff Case, Walter Warkenthein. Cherry Picking his 'investigations' of police wrongdoing, especially when they don't concern his vaunted Major Crimes Bureau and Suffolk County Police Department are nothing more than Mr.Spota's attempts to dull the criticism that is sure come if the Tankleff appeal is granted by the Appellate Court. Nice work Mr. Editor. I am sure Tom Spota will keep your failing newspaper alive with his many 'investigations' into corruption and wrongdoing with the stories you will take hot off his Press releases. |

No sense of 'outrage' on the part of Mr. Spota when he won an acquittal for Mr.McCready being charged with brutally beating a man into a pulp. No outrage, only tears of joy and hugs in that much publicized photograph of Spota crying. It was a Bench Trial, but in Suffolk County that wouldn't make a difference.
No sense of 'outrage' when he defended McCready in the SIC Hearings for perjury. A perjury that may have unnecessarily freed a guilty man of murder. No outrage. In fact he continues to defend McCready by standing in the way of the Tankleff plea for a retrial. No sense of 'outrage' that he would see fit to use a police officer to testify at a trial and perjure himself. The same man who was the subject of a 1992 Newsday article describing how Judge Namm dismissed a case against a defendant as there was clear evidence the cop tortured the man for a confession. No outrage and no investigation of the police officer who was charged by a county judge. I guess as long as Spota fills your pages with his agendas then you will be satisfied not to do your jobs as you have done so well in days long past. Your once very fine newspaper is failing, and failing fast because of the lack of quality and integrity of what you write. It is a damn shame because I hardly ever agreed with your paper but continue to buy it to support the Last Hope Long Islanders have to keep the corrupt honest. I will see you at the funeral. |

He finally attacked the wrong village. Mr. Spota is full of hot air and will be deflated. He has the nerve to call the Ocean Beach Police Officers thugs. He's a THUG and workes with a band of THUGS. See you on the sidelines soon Spota.

when you say vindictive i can't help but to tell of a time where i witnessed mr spota and his love of power. it was about six years ago and i was attending a senior citizen seminar which was being held in the gymnasium of suffolk community college-brentwood campus. mr spota back then had set up a booth in his campaign push for DA..he was as nice as the day was long to all the seniors who approached his booth. a couple of hours later the seminar was over and mostly everyone was gone. i being handicapped was in the lobby of the gym waiting for a ride. i then witnessed mr spota and a couple of younger fellas probably detectives walk out into the lobby and stood close to where i was. at the same time a young man, about 18-19 years of age approached the three..he said he was a college political science student and very respectfully questioned mr spotas stance on a particular issue...what proceeded, to this day i'll never forget. mr.spota got incensed at this boy and went on a tirade to the tune of both detectives holding him back so he couldn't get at the boy..i could not believe what i was witnessing..this boy looked shocked..this was a grown man acting like a child and who was running for the DA of Suffolk county. i thought he was gonna have this poor kid put in handcuffs. long story short i know of the vindictiveness you speak and have witnessed it firsthand

READ IT AND SEE IF THIS MAN ISN'T A CERTIFIED THUG. HAD HE BEEN THE DA THEN THE KID WOULD HAVE PROBABLY BEATEN AND ARRESTED. IF HE DID THIS TO A KID WHO ASKED HIM A QUESTION WHAT DO YOU THINK HE WOULD DO TO A GUY WHO WRITE A LETTER TO THE SIC ON HIM. AND WHAT DO YOU THINK HE WOULD DO TO A GUY HE WANTED INFORMATION FROM TO SCREW THE LETTER WRITER. ILL TELL YOU HE SET UP A FRAME OF THE MOST GIGANTIC PORPORTIONS AND CONVICTED THE GUY AND HE GOT SENTENCED TO 5 TO 15. I KNOW THIS BECUASE THAT 'VICTIM' IS MY SON IN LAW |

I'm with you brother. the man is not worthy to be a district attorney. He is vindictive, petty, cruel, dishonest, dumb, and has no common sense. He doesn't even have the brains to do his job and do it quietly when his own closet is full of skeletons.
He doesn't give orders, he only takes them from a few choice cops he is trying to convince himself they are 'solid police officers' |

I guess it all is a matter of time. tom's pal Jeanine Pirro is on the ropes. The same Jean Pirro her 'forgot' to tell that he had four suspects for an A2 arson in her jurisdiction. The best part he gave them immunity for their LIES. Incredible.
If you read Careccia's plea agreement it lists the arson at 733 Yonkers Ave., Yonkers, NY has one of the 38 crimes he owned up to in his get out of jail free card. I think that can fall under the the definition of Obstruction of Justice, and a compounded felony that he witheld this information because he needed to commit another crime of intentionally prosecuting a man he knew to be innocent. you know something tom, you can make up any bullspit you want on this. Jeanine can do likewise, but if she is pressed by the US attorney as to this deal that she agreed to AFTER I notified her then you might be in a ton of sh*t. Which is just about right for you. Unless there is compelling information regarding National Security, then I can't see how you can wiggle out of this. I'll give you a heads up - it could have had something to do with national security, but you couldn't or didn't know that. You got the information from Yonkers on the fire. The facts of the getaway car are different from Cipkin's statement because your dumbass detectives picked the wrong car of the other guy you were looking to frame. He also had an Acura at his disposal, but you made it a Ford Explorer just as you did with Pond Road. What amazes me to no end is how such incomptent idiots such as you and your staff can manage to get away with all those lies. It's a good thing your constiuents are a shade dumber than you are, and believe all that crap you spew out day by day by day. |

Thank You,thank you, thank you very much.I'm just doin my job as your DA.Its a sad day when the job requires an arrest of one of my officers.Hessie is a personal friend of mine,I know he's not guilty, thats why I let him keep his job in the meantime. We play golf every weekend at Bayport.I love life, just think,I could be an innocent man behind bars serving a life sentence such as Martin Tankleff.A lesson to all you youngsters, join law enforcement. Its an ever growing gang,we protect our own.The salaries suck at first but the pay offs and liberal benefits cannot be beaten. As long as the PBA backs you up,you'll practically be able to kill someone, get paid for it and walk in MY County.Joy to all.
