blaming black victims for mexicans getting jobs? can you read? where in that article did it say there were no available jobs cuz mexicans took them all? And rise in crime in those neighborhoods were from the current residents (based on your school analogy), just timed coincidentally with the influx of relocated people from N.O.? You usually make sense, so you get a bogie on this one. |

The government had rejected all the charity money that was generously donated by other countries. That truly is phucked up and I don't understand why Bush did that. |
|
Right, esp. from Holland. They have expertise when it comes to rescue operations resulting from dikes due to their historic relation to the Atlantic. Castro also offered aid and that was refused.
Cuba, by the way, prepares for hurricanes months in advance. The country evacuates populations at risk--including animals and pets. The Cuban's also make an effort to protect unharvested crops. |

I don't know why the feds didn't accept the money from foreign charities. The Veterans Hospital which which was flooded and now is closed, surely could have helped thousands of black veterans who fought in foreign countries.

Right, and the reports I read claimed that military barracks and naval ships were immediately available, yet the gov't did nothing. |

I lived in New Orleans since 1985, I believe that not to many deaths can be contributed to hurricanes that should prove that we were prepared ( the levees broke).Cuba has many problems of their own. The govt did help but to little to late.

The cash allocated to the Katrina victims has been spent. Let the lawyers fight it out. Turn to personal responsibility.

Personal pocket lining and war funding. An opportunity to gain a significant amount by exploiting the catastrophe. For those who say these people just DON'T want to work, try relocating after losing everything (including ID and stability), getting shuffled around to God know's where, and on top of it being black. |

The saddest part is that people STILL believe that the victims themselves are solely to blame. Now granted some of them could've taken the help that was given to get out of that place, but the ones who seriously couldn't go anywhere....how can we blame them again? Cuba, of all places, offered to send thousands of its best doctors to the city to help those in need, BUT the U.S. government REFUSED IT. What does that spell out for you? I'll tell you....this may have had something to do with race, but bureacracy played a major role in it. The U.S. wants the poor and the "majority" out of NOLA so it can turn that entire place over to the Republican party, to the rich, and make it out of a "sin city." The U.S. cares more about money and making it quick than the people who bought and owned homes there for all of their lives. I don't see how people can not see this. The whole world knows why the U.S. government stole these people homes and turned tricks in it...why can't Americans see it?

I prayed for the victims every day. |
Hi there Caprice. Are you originally from Shreveport? I asked because your IP says so, but also says that you're in/from CA. I don't pray, but I totally understand what these people were talking about. The U.S. government can send our national guardsmen/women to a foreign region after a disaster in LESS than a week, but it took how long to send local troops and help to fellow citizens? I forgot, but I think it was at least two weeks before these people reached help. Condi was shopping for shoes in NY while people were drowning...literally. G.W. Bush was on "vacation" (when does this a*hole NOT take a vacation). He spends more time on his TX ranch than in his white house. TX is next door to LA and even close to MS and AL. There's no excuse why these people in the gulfcoast have not received the adequate help in time. Anyway, I'm glad that you prayed for them Caprice because I'm sure they needed every little help they could get whether it's monetarily or just spiritually. |

I'm originally from Shreveport, La., but i'm currently living in Southern California. I'm very upset about this whole thing... they hurried to a foreign country to help them, but didn't help people in their own country - Wth? |

the coast guard was there as soon as it was safe to fly. once again blaming your problems on race.

So what made you move all the way to Cali? I couldn't live there because it's so expensive and not worth my money for most of the places there (sqft being so small and such). I did hear great things also about Cali though. I'm originally from Harvey, LA so I was highly upset about the whole thing as well. Heck, I still am a bit. There's a joke down on the gulfcoast between the three: Whenever you are in the time of need of another major disaster, just tell the media and government that we've found WMDs. You are GUARANTEED to have help from the U.S. within just minutes!! I currently live in Denver, CO and have been living here for almost two full years. This Sept. will make a full 2 years for me. I like it here a lot. |

I have family out here, and I love looking at the palm trees. California's really beautiful.
