When 128 was built, it was in the woods - the suburbs. Same with 495. But better roads bring in the businesses because of ease of access.
My point was that companies seem to be crowded into the same areas. I get job offers all the time from recruiters for jobs in Cambridge and Boston. It never fails. It is always the same. All of these companies flock to the same area and it drives up house prices so people have to live further and further away. Which is why you suddenly have a great number of Cambridge employees flocking into places like Nashua. Suddenly they have to commute 40 miles one way to work because they got majorly priced out of homes. The highway is filled with one person to one car commuters driving great distances. That is one of the largest factors of why we go through so much fuel.

Obama's slide in the polls continues. Today's Rasmussen Poll shows him up by only 4. Gallup has him up by only 2. The truth continues to do him in, despite his flips, flops, waffles, re-calculations, re-evaluations, and reassessments.

This is considered an international model for public transit.
Here's an intro to transit in Rio:

I could understand that it could be a bit difficult to an outsider to find their way around on this type of a system, but I don't see why you would say it is so awful.
Give me an example. What makes it so awful. What makes it worse than, say, getting around a city like Los Angeles or Houston (or even Lowell) by public transit.
Sorry, don't know Lowell's mass transit, but based on the rest of Massachusetts, I doubt it is good. Houston and Los Angeles are hideous, from first hand experience.

I have not been to Curitiba, but I have been to other cities in Brazil. First hand knowledge says their transit systems are awful.

I repeat, have you ever been to Brazil? Or are you just quoting internet articles?

Bob, the video clip basically advises AGAINST using public transport in favor of taxi's.

Now I realize your point. You advocate buses as mass transit. Have you ever been anywhere in Latin America to realize how destructive and inefficient this is?

Oil is no different from any other commodity, put more of it on the market and the price goes down. It does not matter where it comes from, who buys it or where it goes. If you don’t believe me, start growing wheat. If you plant wheat this fall, it will not take you 7 to 10 years to get it to market when you harvest it unless your truck is solar powered or runs on magic love beads.
Regarding our oil companies makings money, who the hell are our oil companies – J.R. Ewing and Dr Evil? I hope there is a chunk of American oil company in my 401k. I would rather my oil dollar go there than to PEMEX, Hugo Chavez or some Saudi prince. Exxon-Mobil is going to be a far better steward of looking out for my interests than the government run ponzi game we currently have called Social Security.
Democrats and the Environmental lobby have been putting the interest of rats and field mice ahead of the American citizen long enough. I don’t give a damn about some rat. I do care about a bunch of 60s rejects that never got real jobs that do everything possible run our economy in the ground. Like it or not, until we get a working model of a flux capacitor or windmill powered car, we are stuck with oil. We do have a plan B. We have lots and lots of coal. The Germans were able to make fuel out of coal 60 years ago but the rat lobby has a problem with that too.

CNN Commentator just said on Eve. News that Jessie did Obama a favor and said something to the effect that Obama would welcome as many such comments that Jackson made...as Obama could get...because it helped Obama's campaign establish that Obama was not just for the Black Population...which is exactly what Obama MUST do right now. Do you really think The American People are so stupid as to think Jessie Jackson's remarks were not strategically planted to help Obama?
LMAO!!!

Jessie played The Machiovellian Card...but the Typical Black way....it is now politically correct to use "typical" when referring to one's color of skin. Thanks, Obama!!!

Gee...Obamanations are now saying Obama is 1/2 White instead of "Black"...imagine that!!! Just in time for Obama to move to the center. Will Obama be White soon?
Is Obama really a Man or a chameleon? Never knew Homo Sapiens could change color. Wow!!!!

Now that Obama has gotten all the mileage he can out of being Black...he is moving to the center...so Mulatto will probably not be attacked for not being politically correct...which actually translates to being politically convenient. Stay tuned...any day now...Obama will be White. Think he will ever be ALL THAT HE IS?

Have you ever heard about the Preble Mouse and the fiasco with the abuse of the Endangered Species Act. The Enviros are still as recently as today trying to shove a mouse down our throats as endangered. It makes for some interesting reading.

Russia is out grabbing every bit of oil it can because they know the wold will be oil dependent for a long time to come. It's the democrats that are so entrenched with their radical environmentalism that they are refusing to listen to common sense and the American people. Let's hope enough democrats wake up and defect from the ranks and finally realize that drill must start as soon as possible.

If Obama is elected I predict mininum $6/gal gas in 16 months. His pull-out/surrender will create a power vacuum and open the door for Iran to take over Iraqi oil in the south. Iraq accounts for 5% of world oil shipments.
But then again the Democratic party is all for this.

"Crist backs McCain on offshore drilling

By LARRY LIPMAN and DARA KAM

Palm Beach Post Staff Writers

Tuesday, June 17, 2008

TALLAHASSEE — Florida's once-solid bipartisan opposition to drilling in the Gulf of Mexico shattered Tuesday when Gov. Charlie Crist reversed course and said the state may have to allow drilling to help lower gasoline prices.

Crist was among the Republicans expressing support for Sen. John McCain's call for lifting the federal moratorium along the Outer Continental Shelf and giving states a share of petroleum revenues as an incentive for them to allow oil and gas drilling off their coasts."

Quite the increase too. One calls for 40 cents a gallon, the other for 10 but indexing it to construction costs, which of course only means that they have every reason to spend wastefully rather then wisely.

They always compare our taxes to other countries but forget to mention that we pay taxes at more levels then the other countries.

Federal tax on gas
State tax on gas
Tax on income to buy the gas
Sales tax on gas
Plus we pay to access the highways that they build with all this tax in some cases. The US actually has a high tax rate if all of our taxes are taken into account. Most countries do not have so many different levels of taxation. It makes it easier to lie and fool the people in this country.
