GOP wants to cut food stamps in deficit-trim drive

Apr 17, 2012 Full story: Seattle Post-Intelligencer 20

Republicans controlling the House are eying big cuts to food stamps as they piece together legislation to trim $261 billion from the federal budget over the next decade, hoping to forestall major Pentagon cutbacks.

Why would Republicans want to starve Americans?

No Republicans do not want to starve the poor. They might be targeting fraud. There is plenty of that to go around. Democrats want to disarm us. They did away with NASA. We could save billions from each Agency by eliminating fraud. We need to get together for the good of the country, but Democrats would rather whine, and complain then work anything out. They think we don't see what we see.

Not a bad idea to cut fraud but with so many Americans out of a job and barely getting by, why take food out of Americans hands?

Most of the elections Democrats tell everyone Republicans will take away their Social Security. There have been a number of Republican Presidents since the Democrats started that story in the 60s, and the elderly still have their Social Security checks. Now that we have so many people unemployed thanks to the Democrats refusal to create new jobs, and threatening to take away their food stamps works just as well. It is a lie. No one will do without their food stamps. If anything more people are on food stamps today then ever. Democrats should try to run on their records. Oh, that is right, they have nothing to brag about.

Too many people are not reporting all the income coming into a household, enabling themselves to get a larger stipend. It is time for the Feds to stop this practice. Illegals are known to use this tactic, as they do the same on something as simple as a free meal application for school meals...yet they list a work number as an emergency number on another form. It doesn't take a Sherlock Holmes to figure out what they are doing.

This is exactly right. Getting ready to report someone now who has her brother living with her while collecting GI bill housing stipends and paying rent. It's fraud folks and it needs to stop! Report these people. They are thieves!

Funny thing is they have a back yard but won't plant a garden. Entitled people who live on Xanax, smokes and Pepsi! Get jobs!!!

End the wars and close half of the over 700 foreign military bases....cut off all fund and military support to other nations......That would save 1 trillion a year and not one old sick or poor person will suffer and we could even lower taxes for ALL....

While I think ending the wars and closing half of the 700 foreign military bases is a good idea, it is not practical to do so. I do like the cutting off funding and military support to other nations, but that too is impractical.

If we closed a whole bunch of military bases, then where would the servicemen/women work at? If you think unemployment is high now, it would skyrocket once bases are closed. You could roughly estimate 40-50,000 people working at each base (civilian and military), imagine all them coming home to the good ole USA and guess what? NO JOBS!!!!

I do feel that our funding of many nations, like Egypt for example, is a waste of our taxpayer monies, but say we did just that. The "Muslim Brotherhood" would soon take over and it would spread to other countries across the globe. Then we would become a target for any nut case out there. The USA has more "frenemies" than friends, and any number of them would really like to "take out" the "Evil USA" anyway they can.

Our politicians over the last 100 years have shafted all of us while trying to be the world's policeman, and giving millions if not billions of our money to help countries that could care less if we around or not.

Those troops from closed bases could come home(much cheaper haveing them home) and they could round up illegals and defend WE THE PEOPEL for a change and our borders........

Absolutely no reason the government should be buying these idiots pop, candy, chips and all this other junk so they can buy beer and weed. The kids get free lunches and free food on top of free food! The only problem is that Obama and the progressives have spent a lot of our money, and used our military to put the Muslim Brotherhood, in power in all of the countries you read about they called the muslim spring, hell Obama's czars have the muslim brotherhood people advising us how to do security, something pretty crazy about that, you let the people who scream they are going to kill in into positions to know what we are doing and what to do if we react to their actions.

Also some of these people are incredibly obese to be so 'hungry'

So then the state has to pay large medical bills due to the health problems obesity causes.

Force them to work in community gardens and grow their own vegetables. A little exercise sure would not hurt them but then again they would rather lay on the couch and starve to death. Let them!!!

I agree with you completely. A lot of the power brokering has gone on for many years, well before even Kennedy was President, and it has traversed through Democratic and Republican administrations. This latest Democratic Administration though seems to have increased the speed at which this occurs.

Now it would seem that we are "damned if we do and especially damned if we don't". The power mongers in Washington, DC need to pull their respective heads from "where the sun doesn't shine" (both parties are just as bad) and see what they have brought upon the USA and the world.

Obama and co-horts won't do anything about this type of problem, and I'm not sure if Romney has the wherewithall to try it himself. The once Great USA is on the way to becoming just like Greece, Spain and Portugal....useless and depending on others to survive.

This is oh so true and no one checks. Food stamps, medicaid, free lunches cash on the job and refunds from the IRS for being illegal. Way to go congress.

Some would argue that they may drop dead from the work. I really dont care. Most of them have been nothing but get-over-artist for years. I wonder if they'd be good for fertilizer?

I don't give a damn if they all drop dead! It isn't against the law for these deadbeats to work off their meals!!!
