If this it what it takes to force the DC politicians to obey the law of the land as decided by the Supreme Court then it needs to be done.

Critics, led by the District of Columbia's sole delegate to Congress, decried the action. They said the vote tramples on the District's rights to govern itself and could endanger both residents and political dignitaries who so often travel across the city.
Do "the District's rights to govern itself" mean that the administration running it can "trample" on the Constitutional Rights of the residents? Oh yes, regarding the claim that it will " .. endanger both residents and political dignitaries . ". Sure it will. After all, the DC gun ban has been such a resounding success at preventing crime that the proverbial virgin with a bag of gold can walk its streets unmolested.
But nonvoting Delegate Eleanor Holmes Norton said Congress was violating the District's home rule rights by imposing federal dictates, something it would do to no other American city. "The House has the gall to ask for a vote to nullify the gun laws in my district, depriving my district of the right to protect itself and visitors like yourselves while denying me a vote on this floor on passage. Have you no shame?"
How about the "right" of the individual citizens of DC to protect >themselves<, Eleanor? And speaking of "rights", there was a recent Supreme Court decision which ruled those D.C. anti-gun laws to be unconstitutional. You >did< hear about that, didn't you? And as for "denying you a vote", you represent a federal district and not a state and therefor have >never< had a vote in the full House, in case you hadn't noticed. To rephrase your closing comment, Eleanor, have you no brains??
"I ask Congress, leave us alone and let us do our job," D.C. Council member Carol Schwartz said Tuesday.
Absolutely right, Carol. After all, you and the other clowns on the Council have been doing your job so well that D.C.'s low crime rate is the envy of every other city in America.

Our legislators have sold us out. Are they out of their minds? With gun deaths increasing daily?

America is no longer home of the free, it is home of the corrupt.

Do tell: Just ~WHAT~ is a so-called 'gun death?'

I have many, and virtually ~none of them~ has died.

But then? None of them is alive either.

So, you'll get back on that remark of yours, won't you?

The Bill has passed the House - it will be a much tougher battle in the Senate.

"What if there were a kid's sporting event held in D.C. and armed residents were allowed to attend this event ?

What about the inalienable right to live a safe life; does that not trump the right of a citizen to own a firearm ?

Home rule means a municipality has the power to decide which rights will be allowed and which will not. Home Rule allows govt to be dictators to it's citizens (a neccessary evil). It also means govt can restrict free speech, especially if the speech exposes the truth about the functionality of laws.

Home rule should exist so that local govt can decide who should be incarcerated, especially those who criticize the local govt - citizens should not have any right to expose corrupt govt officials or criticize govt.

Home rule needs to exist so that police have the neccessary power to torture suspects to keep the public safe.

Eleanor Norton Holmes got it right: she knows that to keep D.C. residents safe the govt needs to be able to do whatever it thinks neccessary, which should include internment camps for political dissidents, regular roundups by police, weapon bans, warrantless searches of residents homes and keeping suspected gun owners kids from attending public schools."

Sold "us" out to whom? You do realize that the NRA, GOA, and other "gun lobbies" are composed of voting citizens who are concerned about their rights, don't you? Listening to the people they are elected to represent is what the government is SUPPOSED to do. Thus "by the people, for the people." You consider this to be "corrupt"?

I will consider that we are responding to a yet another 'drive-by.'

You know the kind: Drop-in, make a snide and/or unfounded remark, and then never come back.

D.C. Delegate Eleanor Norton Holmes is a close friend to Barack Obama.

Holmes makes it very clear her contempt for the Bill of Rights, Obama keeps it private (flip-floppy.)

What are you talking about? This is the first time I have seen our legislators actually do something right. They are tossing out useless laws instead of creating more. Anyone who didn’t vote to repeal the DC gun ban should be impeached for breaking their oath to uphold and defend the constitution.

Impeached? Hell, they should be treated to VERY SAME END AS Il Duce (Mussolini).
