Judged: 4 3 3 Tea Party is 'great awakening' for GOP By Catalina Camia, USA TODAY Updated 2011-07-05 CAPTION By Justin Sullivan, Getty Images Sen. Jim DeMint, R-S.C., has become a favorite of the Tea Party movement and a conservative leader who has been encouraged by some to run for president. But DeMint, founder of the Senate's Tea Party Caucus, writes in his book out today that he has felt "isolation" at times for bucking his party on issues such as earmarks and for his fervent support of candidates such as Florida's Marco Rubio and Pennsylvania's Pat Toomey. DeMint's book, The Great American Awakening: Two Years that Changed America, Washington & Me, chronicles his fight in Congress to push the GOP establishment and his support of the anti-tax, small-government Tea Party movement that has reshaped party politics. In excerpts provided to USA TODAY, DeMint recounts his transformation and that of his party. He recalls how in June 2009, he endorsed Rubio, a former speaker of the Florida House, then about 30 percentage points below Gov. Charlie Crist in the polls for a U.S. Senate seat. DeMint found Rubio was the "principled conservative" and Crist, despite his popularity and backing by the GOP leadership, was a "political opportunist" who had broken with Republicans to support President Obama's economic stimulus package. "For me, the choice was clear," DeMint writes. "It certainly wasn't for the others. My colleagues literally laughed at me." Crist, sensing he could not win the GOP nomination, went on to bolt the Republican Party and became an independent. Rubio, with the help of the Tea Party movement, beat Crist and Democrat Kendrick Meek to win the Senate election. DeMint writes also about his former GOP Senate colleague, Pennsylvania's Arlen Specter, who switched parties and became a Democrat. "If Republican leaders preferred Arlen Specter to Pat Toomey, then we obviously needed new Republican leaders," DeMint writes.(Specter eventually lost renomination to the Senate to Democrat Joe Sestak, and Toomey beat Sestak for the Senate seat.) http://content.usatoday.com/communities/onpol... |

Judged: 2 2 2 The decision of the Democratic grandees to try to force through a radical program of Unconstitutional socialized medicine in the face of opposition on the part of a growing majority of their fellow citizens guarantees that opposition will grow and grow. And Barack Obama and William Jefferson Clinton did themselves no favors when they decided to pick up and repeat Anderson Cooper’s snide, sneering, obscene description of the Tea-Partiers as teabaggers. In the election campaign, Obama hid the contempt that he entertains for his fellow citizens. Now the gloves are off, and he and his minions are busy delivering body blows ... to themselves. What remains remarkable, however, is the Tea-Party movement lacks institutional support. Back in the early 1990s, when Hillary Clinton announced her proposal for a federal takeover of healthcare, the insurance companies mounted a campaign against it. This time, the Democrats have squared everything with the special interests. The National Association of Manufacturers quickly climbed on board, eager to free its members from having to provide health care insurance for their members’ employees. The pharmaceutical companies did a deal with Obama aimed at protecting their short-term interests, as did the American Medical Association. The American Association of Retired Persons — which purports to represent the interests of the elderly, but is essentially another insurance company — was bought outright, and the same thing can be said with regard to the health insurance companies. The industrial labor unions have been bought and are similarly on board. Indeed, everyone appears to have been taken care of ... except, of course, for the ordinary citizens who will be subject to the new regime and repressive taxes. There was no one to stand up for them until the Tea Party grew and pushed in Great new Congressmen. The Republican Party had lacked the requisite votes, and everyone else has been bought. In the circumstances, it is heartening that Americans still know how to stand up for themselves. With continued cooperation from Nancy Pelosi, Harry Reid, and Barack Obama, the Tea-Party movement may find itself blazing the trail for a partisan realignment that few in the Republican Party yet has the wit to imagine. http://www.powerlineblog.com/archives/2009/11... |

Judged: 2 1 1 Hilarious week lined up for Obama, prez to appear on Fallon, Kimmel to roast him at White House dinner. Many see Obama's appearance on the popular show an attempt to zero in on young voters. Of course as is normal with Obama, nothing about jobs, his hidden records, another smoking gun on the border, or the thousands wasted by the GSA. Judged: 2 2 1 The TEA party had nothing to do with taxes or wasteful spending. Their leaders are a tax raiser (Palin), and the queen of government care through her family's farm subsidies, medicare payments, and taxpayer paid health insurance (Bachmann). The G-roup O-f P-olitical T-erroristic E-uropean A-mericans were never concerned about taxes or spending. They were just angry they were bested by a black man. ========== The right has OFFICIALLY become deranged. ========== ObamaCares! 4 more years please! ========== |
