John Thomas wrote: Timemachinist, Thanks for saving me the trouble 8^) No problem John Thomas. Sometimes I'm still shocked by the depths of ignorance and prejudice out there, I guess that is what keeps the counter-productive prohibition laws politically viable in spite of their devastating effects on individuals, families, neighborhoods, justice system, public health and public safety. It really is eye-opening to see how these insane policies can be perpetuated in our so-called democratic republic with a free press. Have you ever noticed the prohibition policies are never publicly defended by anyone who actually knows anything about it? Its always these people who can't even type a proper sentence or logical argument who are left to champion the drug war in public discourse. This thread is a very typical example of the public discussion of drug policy: ignorance and prejudice champion the policy, and facts and analysis are thrown like pearls to swine. At the more formal level, the mainstream media are stenographers to power, nitpicking about corruption or incompetence but never making principled opposition or even critical questions about the assumptions underlying policy, whether it be so-called "terror war" or "drug war" or even the market ideology justifying 40+ million Americans without health insurance. I guess I have to remember we have evolved from beasts, and much of our functioning is still reptilian.

timemachinist wrote: To begin, the cartel turf wars and the 2,000 murders so attributed could be ended by legalizing drugs, as the Mexican Congress supposedly came close to doing recently. This is PROHIBITION violence, not "drug violence." Ban lingerie or chocolate and the same turf cartels and turf wars and black market would appear for those commodities too. Putting these drugs under legal regulation would divert all those $$hundreds billions$$ annually into legitimate and taxable and regulated financial paths, cutting off the vast majority of income and jobs to the cartels from top to bottom. As for so-called "illegals" in our country, I say we should have open immigration to everyone except criminals. In conjunction with open immigration we should also give new hope and opportunity to the people of the poor countries byquitting our debt-mastery and neo-liberal trade and budget requirements (through IMF and WTO) over the poor countries and enter into a more equitable and constructive development plan to reduce the miseries and poverty of those places on the peripheries but very much a part of our global system of economy and culture. Rather than "securing the borders," we need to stop aggravating the disparities of the world that are creating these overwhelming demographic pressures. Calderone you want to deal with this ass hole or should we take care of him here? We can switch, We'll go after the growers and chemists in your area and you can do what you want with this one. This idiot and friends don't understand the concept of wars...(and he should be enlisted) Snoop...how was Sweden? Tell me, how were your accomadations? Were you arrested and given a drug test? I know the penalties in Austria could be very harsh...people ar efacing 40 years...why you ask, because of what results (addictions, prostitution, HIV/AIDS (pot doesn't prevent it...it causes it, and it also causes the cancer to return and spread)because it is another war we are fighting...what have these drugs done to your people? I've told you what it has done to ours. How many people killed? What diseases and birth defects have these drugs created? How is your ecomony, you were the dealers? Who came up with the treatment for Chagas? What is Chagas? Then why are your people here if it is so great? Why are we having this discussion? You better step back Angel! Are you hearing that people on the stock market..are you certain you are buying cocoa for chocolate? And not illegal substances...ecomonies fall that quickly!

Not apparently if you're having "SENSELESS SEX". I'm still laughing about that one. I guess it's a gateway sex to "casual" and the harder core "dwarfy".

"Senseless sex" is a highlight here all right. What's next, the crime of "non-nutritional eating?" Oops. Forgot. That's what fast food is all about. Not to mention ice cream, candy, chips.... I guess I'd better stop. I'm eliminating lots of folks' whole diet. Not to mention the desert table at every church social. 8^)

I understand that there is a link between Mercury and Autism, but I am not Autistic, and my mother didn't put down the pot pipe throughout my gestation, so I would say that that must be bunk. Perhaps it’s in addition to something, but the pot alone will not cause autism, I am living proof.

Mariuana doesn't cause ANY serious health problems - autism or any other. That's just silly prohibitionist bunk. The smoke can cause minor irritation to the lungs, but it is surprisingly lacking in harm compared to the smoke of anything else. Researchers believe it is due to the anti-inflammatory and anti-oxidant properties of marijuana.
But even the minor problems of smoke can be avoided by consuming in food, drink or vaporizers, so, as DEA Administrative Law Judge Francis Young concluded after two years of exhaustive study, "Marijuana is the most benign therapuetically active substance known to man."

JT, I like your comments, they show the drug war hasn't turned everyone into fascists yet.
